A couple of years ago, Technical Services contacted me through a list they obtained from the electric company. They initially alleged that they would thoroughly check my AC system for $19.99. Stupid me, I agreed for them to come. After a few minutes of being outside, the so-called tech told me that my system was slow coming on and that it needed some kind switch to enhance its performance, and the total cost would be $199.00. But if I sign a two-year agreement for $259, which would cover emergency situations and maintenance, the switch would be installed at no additional cost. Unaware of their croocked paractice and not knowing anyone else, I ridiculously agreed. By the way, they have not done anything at all for that money since I signed the agreement over a year and a half ago - not even regular maintenance.
Recently, my system was acting up and I naturally called them. The representative/tech did his routine/trick and showed me that the system was frozen. He also alleged that mold was an issue. There was supposedly a leak as well. He told me that the outside unit was on its way out and the brand only last a few years; I have had it for approx 6 years. After a lengthy sales pitch and lots of convincing, he quoted me $8000 to replace the outside unit. He was so persistent in trying to get me to sign for the replacement the very same day that I started having reservations. He left very unhappy because I told him that I wanted to get second opinion.
After talking to a neighbor, I was referred to a tech who works for an AC company but does side jobs. He came over and inspected the whole system, did some flushing, checked the freon level and found NOTHING wrong. The only thing thing that was wrong was PVC drain pipe that runs from the inside unit to outside (where system water drains) was clogged and needed flushing. My freon level was good and I didn't need any to be added. To get system back and running adequately, it only cost me $60.00.
Don't use or ever about using Technical Services. When you hear the name, just RUN!
