I bought a used '98 Ford Explorer Sport from my local Ford dealership for $13,999. I was not offered an extended warranty (probably because they knew all of the problems I would encounter). It seemed like an alright deal, and it WAS a great car.

I have only had the car for a year and a half and about three months into it I started experiencing problems. The transmission is going out. When I took it to the dealership explaining the problems with the transmission, they tried to say that there was nothing wrong with it. (I think they were shocked due to the fact that I am a girl and I actually knew what I was talking about).

I have had to replace the breaks, ball joints, tie rods, cd player because it has stopped working (to be honest most of the electrical system experiences problems), and there are multiple problems with the interior.

I know I am partly at fault for falling for sale. However, at the time I was a 19 year old girl desperately in need of a car. Now, I am so burried in the payment that I cannot trade it on anything. I don't think it would kill Terre Haute Ford to at least offer me a decent trade, but that is too much to ask.

I will have to live with my horrible excuse for a car for now because I cannot afford to get out of it. But I will spend the rest of my car buying days telling my story to any and all of their customers. Thanks for teaching me the lesson of buying a vehicle from such a horrible company.

You bought a six year old car!

What was so horrible about the dealer? You bought a 1998 Explorer, right? It was probably built in 1997 making it 6 years old. Brakes (they are brakes not 'breaks') do wear out and so do front end parts although I am surprised at worn ball joints in only six years. The transmission? Probably the previous owner never changed the fluid or had it done at one of those quickie places which DO NOT do the job correctly! The transmission filter NEEDS to be replaced, not just drain and refill. You're right, you are stuck with it and please do not fall for the "trade it in" game. Whatever you owe on this car WILL BE ADDED to what you will owe on another! This is an expensive lesson, next time take the car to a mechanic BEFORE you buy it and have a professional check it out!
