This morning when checking my online bank account, I see a charge for $9.99 for Broadband Service. What's This??? I have no TV, only a computer which has a cable modem through Brighthouse. I had been web surfing a few days before, just to see what was out there as far as satelite services, and may have even been on Dish Network's page, but I never selected anything and certainly did not put my credit card info in. On that particular day, I was upgrading my computer, and had to turn off my security features for awhile. I called the bank & they gave me a phone number for the Merchant and I called. It is answered automatically "Saveology" and goes round trying to get an account# which I don't have as I never signed up. Finally I get a real person, "Mary" who answers the phone as "Dish Network". I tell her the story, $9.99 to my Visa Bank card saying "Broadband Services", I called the Merchant ph# and after reaching Saveology.com am re-routed to Mary. Mary has no record of an account in my name, my phone# or a charge to my CC#. Besides, she says, they don't have any charges for $9.99. She needs a copy of my bank statement (which won't come out till 7/1/09, a month away) to verify the charge so it can be credited back.....WAIT A MINUTE...You just said you didn't have a record of any charges to my CC#, and now if I supply you with a bank statement, you'll credit it back?? I went to USA's BBB website and put in 'Saveology'. It gave me several addresses. I then put in 'The Elephant Group', and Lo and Behold, it gave me all the exact same addresses. All the Elephant Group has done is change it's skin. It's still up to the same old tricks. It somehow got my CC#, charged it and now wanted to dawdle around about crediting it back, figuring for $9.99, I just give up. Wrong. I filed the dispute with my bank, and I'll let them handle it. I get so tired of getting scammed. It's a constant battle to keep up the fight, but fight I will.
