Planning a trip to Paris, I was referred to Wendy Lyn by an article in the Chicago Tribune. She plans dinners under the name of Paris Supper Club, but also offers personal food tours under the name of Paris Kitchens. Since I was not going to be in Paris at the time she had planned one of her gourmet dinners, she suggested I book a food tour. She would not confirm the appointment without payment in full. The amount was $250.00 for a three-hour tour for two. Since she received glowing reviews from the Trib, I felt she was a trustworthy individual and did not feel uncomfortable prepaying the tour in full.
Big mistake.
I got sick on the day we were supposed to have the tour and called her several hours ahead to tell her I would not be able to make it. I had a flu bug and could not even look at food. She offered to reschedule. She never returned my calls for the remainder of the week I was in Paris in order to do so. I came home to an email telling me she hoped my health was better, that I enjoyed my visit, and that she could not reschedule. She also said that since she gave no refunds for unrescheduled tours, I had a credit waiting whenever I came back. How many times does one get to Paris?
Subsequent communications and the suggestion several times that I would be happy with a 50% refund fell on deaf ears. Be forewarned. Never prepay anyone on line in full....ever.
