I responded to an ad posted by Thomas back in December of 2009 on Craigslist. Thomas contracted me to design a website for his new "non-profit" called "Let 'Em Play".
After dealing with Thomas for several months I began to be suspicious of his character. It was difficult to get paid by him for the work I did, and when I did finally get paid, he paid in postal money orders, which I thought was odd, and he didn't pay me for the full amount I billed. He also lied to me about when the "check" was mailed. After getting verbal with him, they showed up a couple days later. I did not pursue the remaining balance because I just wanted to be through with him. He was quite frankly the most difficult and shady client I've ever dealt with. He also promised me 4 tickets and backstage passes to a concert as partial payment for my services and two days before the event said he would meet me at the concert to give us the tickets as he was coming too. We showed up and he wasn't there and wouldn't respond to my calls. We waited for a couple of hours and he was a no-show. That following Monday, I got an email from him out of the blue asking me to do all this stuff because he was in trouble and didn't so much as apologize for leaving us high and dry on Friday. When I refused to help him, he berated me and told me the tickets were never a part of the deal. I have an email trail proving the contrary. The guy is just a dirt bag.
Upon receiving payment and turning over his website to him I had to ask him repeatedly to modify the billing information for his website domain name and website/email hosting account to his own credit card as I used my business's card to get everything set up. To this day, Thomas has not updated the billing information to his card, leaving charges going to mine. It has now been 6 months, even though he told me he would take care of it. He is still actively using these accounts for his eBay store business.
Shortly after finishing his website, I also started receiving calls and emails from other people around the country that were doing business with Thomas and not getting paid to the tune of thousands of dollars. These people found my contact information on his website (I always put "designed by Tyrol Media" links on the footers of the site I design.) These people were having a hard time getting a hold of Thomas and started complaining to me.
After hearing from others that were scammed by Thomas, I paid for a background search on the guy and talked to friends in law enforcement. He moves more often than a gypsy and has had a ridiculous number of addresses around the country in a very short time. He is often forced to move as a result of evictions for nonpayment of rent.
I am filing this report because I feel for the former "employee" of Funz4Kidz who had the same kind of experience the rest of us that encounter Thomas have. I only wish the filing individual was not anonymous so that I can connect them with the rest of us. If you are that individual and you are reading this, please contact me. I can be found on LinkedIn under Tyrol Media, LLC. I would also like to hear from others that have been scammed by Thomas.
If you do encounter him, be very wary and don't get suckered into his smooth celebrity name-dropping or stories of his exciting life. After dealing with him, I don't believe any of it. The sickest part of his whole scam is that he poses as someone who is actually helping kids, but he really isn't and could give a hoot about the kids.
Luckily, my story is much more tame than the ones others have to tell in the wake of doing business with him. Just ask pro golfer Billy Casper who nearly got kicked out of the Masters because of Thomas!
Bottom line - don't work with him or for him.
