Arrived in Phoenix Arizona for vacation.

Had reserved Luxury car for the week. Asked agent for the luxury car we had reserved, but they only had SUVs. THey spent some time checking for an alternative and provided us with a Volvo S60 (which I would consider a luxury car).

There was no mention of an additional cost for this car by the agent. Yes, I signed the contract, but I would have expected this to be explained to me.

This is a sneaky way to do business.

When I wrote Thrifty about this issue, their response was....you signed the contract.

I would have expected some kind of consideration for the fact that they did not have the car I reserved!

I was billed $460 USD   ($579 CAD)!

Well, good news. Thrifty sent me another response. This time with an apology for the misunderstanding of charges, and a $300 refund.

This is what I would expect from a company like this.

Now, I will be much more likely to do business them in the future!

My reason for submitting this report was more to warn other travellers. It's true, one should always read contracts before signing, however, after a long plane flight, we don't always think to do this. Plus, I want to believe that renting from a reputable company would provide some protection (like shopping with Amazon).

I would expect a company like Thrifty to review the fact that the car I reserved was not available.....plain and simple. An alternative was provided, but no mention of an additional charge.

I guess if this salesman would have told the complainer about the price increase, the complainer would have had to sign the salesman's tongue to confirm! There's no rip off here. The complainer FAILED to READ the contract BEFORE agreeing to its terms and now blames the salesman for their own LACK OF FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE.

YOU admitted the contractual terms were changed. YOU knew YOU were on the hook for those contractual terms. If this salesman told you the new price, would+ you then sign his tongue? Once again, another example of lack of FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE. You chose to NOT READ what YOU obligated YOURSELF to. Now you come here and blame the salesman when the cause of this is YOUR LACK OF.COMMON SENSE. Anybody with half a brain READS the terms of a contract BEFORE agreeing to them. Now why not write back something highly intelligent like " you must work for them".
