Thrifty, Thrifty's falsified toll charges in Orlando harrisburg, Pennsylvania
I happened to read a news item re: Thrifty's notorious scheming about toll's and their notorious fee of $25/- for toll road violation. I got one of those charges way back in 2008, which related to a toll road in Florida -Curry toll gate road when I had actually rented a car in Harrisburg to drive to Lewisburg, PA. for my son's graduation.
After exchange of several e-mails refuting the charge, I was shocked to see an electronic screen shot of the car which had the same number plate as my rental car but was showing a toll violation in Florida on the date & time I was in PA. I struggled to get it straightened and also threatened to report them for scam - I even asked them to check the total miles I had done on that rental which was not more than 100 miles.
So, there was no way that I had driven to Orlando from PA and also within a span of 3 hours from the start of the rental ( the toll violation in Orlando was within 3 hours from the time i rented in PA). After a deluge of e-mails I managed to get them reverse the charge & they compensated me with another meagre $25/- even though I had spent hours and days in getting it sorted. However, there was no explanation or apology for all that happened.
I am now very wary about renting through Thrifty or their associate Dollar rental as I might face the same thing more so now that I am planning a trip to Orlando. Dollar rental has a special offer for mid-size SUV and I'm rather skeptical about taking on that offer. I now read that others have been victims of this scam. We need help for a class action suit against this company.
