Contracted with Brighthouse to install internet and TV cable service in July, 2004. The installer ran a cable from the wall across a heat vent and then under the carpet. On August 13, 2004 I tripped on the cable and fell into my dining room set. The accident has left me with numbness and tingling in the hands, arms and head. I have been seen by neurologists and they tell me I have a serious compression of the spinal cord in the C3-through C7 area of my neck. I am told not to drive, use stairs or ladders, as another fall may result in paralysis.

Brighthouse turned the problem over to the sub-contractor who did the installation - Classic Cable - apparently expecting them to handle the problem. Classic Cable supposedly lost the claim information (According to their insurance adjuster) until December 2004. At that time the insurer, Cincinnati Insurance Companies contacted me on a Saturday evening at 8:30pm. The adjuster, a Ms. Foster assured me she would return the call on Monday, December 20. She did not call again for 3 weeks.

I finally contacted an attorney and started to litigate the issue. Foster finally got back with me and I dropped the attorney, as I was under the impression this could be settled amicably and quickly. WRONG! Brighthouse has failed to intervene and prompt the insurance company or their sub-contractor to settle this claim quickly so I can get the surgery I need to repair the injury to my neck...though I have made several phone calls and sent a number of emails to their corporate office, and they keep referring it back to the Indianapolis Office...which has a tendency to not return my calls.

CIC insurance just notified me this morning that they are NOW prepared to meet with their insured and conduct interviews into the incident. They are also aluding that I knew the cable was a trip hazard and should have been able to avoid it, apparently wanting to limit their liability.

I have gone 6 months now on pain meds and have had to postpone the surgery twice because I am afraid to have it and be left with a huge out of pocket expense which my family may have to take care of in the event of a possible complication due to my being a cardiac and diabetic patient.

I'm 56 years old and haven't worked since the accident and now have more than $800.00 in outstanding medical co pays that I can't pay and Brighthouse and CIC could care less.

Please don't use Brighthouse unless absolutely necessary and if you do, check the installation closely lest you wind up in my position. See my ripoff report on Cincinnati Insurance Companies elsewhere on this site.

Brighthouse, and Classic Cable settled this matter promptly after this RIPOFF REPORT was posted here on Ripoff.Com! I'm not as happy about the settlement as I could be, but it's resolved and I can get on with my life now. Seems Brighthouse left resolution up to the other cable co.'s insurance carrier and they just needed a little incentive to do the right thing. Thanks to RIPOFF.Com the check was delivered this morning and all is now right with the world. Keep up the good work for consumers who have complaints. This forum is one of the few that get quick results.

it was the Sub contractor that did the work and that it is the responsibility of the Sub contractors insurance

From what I see here it was the Sub contractor that did the work and that it is the responsibility of the Sub contractors insurance or the contracting companies themselves that will back charge the sub contractor. It is not the SOLE responsibility of Brighthouse if the Sub contractor messes up therefore that is the reason they contacted the Contracting company to get this resolved. That is the reason the Sub contractors and Contracting company have insurance or should I say should have. So as far as this is concerned you are attacking the wrong company because it was not Brighthouse but the Contracting company that made these problems for you.
