Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I went on-line to TireRack.com and put in my car amd model info. Tire options came up and I ordered one set. Now it turns out that these tires will not fit my vehicle.

I called them up and they told me that it is MY responsibility to ensure the tire sizes match, when in fact I had put im my make and model.

Tirerack.com will not refund me the shipping and further, they are telling me that it is now my responsibility to ship these back to them atMY cost.

The total shipping cost back and forth will be over $200.

I feel it is simply unfair sinceI put inthe make and model of my car andthier software made a bad receommendation for my truck. Why should I have to go through the trouble AND expense of bearing the cost of shipment?

This is a ripoff and unfair to the consumer.

I am so glad to know you have NEVER made a mistake. Or some unforeseen even or whatever has never happened to you.

okay, noticed it that time...

The first time I went there I clicked out of that page and went to "view original equipment tires". The disclaimer is there on the right so it is hard to hold the website responsible for shipping back in this case. It was an error in ordering by the consumer.

In all fairness I do not see how the website could know what the diameter of any tire someone needs unless the consumer checks for themselves BEFORE ordering. Seems simple enough.

I tried this again with a different car. I used a 2007 Honda Accord V6. the first screen after the selection shows the cars original size along with optional sizes. Just to the right of that list it shows the Cautionary note that I posted. This is before you even take the option to see recommended tires.

And to note...

I did read where ramjet posted it in his reply, and I also agree there is a degree of common sense. I am just playing devils advocate. I went to the site myself intentionally looking for a disclaimer, and honestly, I did not see it.

Granted I personally know to check the sidewall for the tire specs before ordering..but not everyone may know this. Where was this disclaimer posted?

...but unless the website clearly states it is the customers responsibility to ensure the tire size matches, I can agree this is a valid complaint.

I went to the website, and it seems all they ask is the year, make and model..and then list a bunch of tires you can order.

Perhaps if anyone can copy and paste where it says the customer ordering online is responsible to measure the diameter...then it might be a good idea for this site to state that before processing orders.

I tested out the website and put in an a pretend order for an 08 Dodge Magnum...I got to the point where it was asking for account info and not ONCE did I notice it ask for me to check or measure or verify the tire size, and as well I did not see anywhere it stating I would be responsible if their website application guide was wrong.

Just saying..

The OP still has NOT posted the year, make, and model

The ONLY way we are going to know for sure what happened is if the OP gives us the year, make, and model of the vehicle.

And, COMMON SENSE would dictate that if you know your vehicle has 17" wheels, that 16" tires would not fit!

Just common sense here.

However, if you were to order a wheel and tire package, you COULD use the 16", and that is why they offer "choices".

As a regular tirerack.com customer, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the site tells you to verify your tire size before ordering. They even have live customer service that you can call if you have questions and you even get to speak to a real live English speaking American in the United States! Imagine that!

My question is how you figured you were going to mount 16" tires on 17" wheels. Explain that.

Just common sense.

It is not unusual at all for a car to have more than one tire size option for the same year and model.

In spite of your smart comments, the fact remains that if you had just looked at the tires currently installed so you knew the size for a fact, this would not have happened.

I copied this from the screen that lists the tires available for my car. It's right beside the selection list in the same size font and the phrase 'Important Notice' is red.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

When selecting an Original Equipment (O.E.) tire size, note that the proper O.E. tire size for the vehicle is determined by options or changes by the manufacturer.

Original Equipment sizes are based on the best information currently available to us. Variations based on options or changes by the manufacturer may change the Original Equipment size on your vehicle. Please verify the size listed matches the tire size listed on your vehicle (usually found in the door jamb or gas cap) or in the Owner's Manual.

If you are unsure what size is installed on the vehicle please check the size as listed on the tire sidewall.

I buy all of my tires from TireRack.com. No problems ever.

This person obviously put in some wrong information, or there are other modifications or variables not listed here.

The OP failed to input the specifics. I wonder why.

Year, make, and model of vehicle as well as tire/wheel size ordered/recieved would have been pertinent info, and maybe a scan of the invoice.

Lets have all of the information here!

No mistake on wheel size!

"Your car COULD even have non standard wheels" - true. Or my could COULDhave had monster wheels. My car COULD have had miniature wheels. My car COULD have had the wheels changed 5 times.

Fact is my car has the ORIGINAL wheels.

And that is the problem. There are limitless "COULD haves" scenarios. And if that were the case, then shame on me.

Fact is that the wheels are the original 17" wheels andTire Rack receommended 16". My invoice even lists the year and make and model of the car. So there is no mistake there either.

Now Tire Rackis not owning up to thier error and asking me to eat the shipping costs both ways.

It's not right. It's not how you run a business. Maybe you have had good luck. For me, this is extremely dissapointing.

I believe we are ultimately responsible for determining that a specific tire will fit our cars. Out of the thousands of combinations of tires, cars, years and wheel options it would not be unexpected that some entries could be incorrect.

I believe the recommendations are just a guideline to list some tires that may work for your car. Your car COULD even have non standard wheels. I have purchased several sets of tires from Tire Rack (I go to their store in South Bend) and I always look at my tires so I know the size that's on the car now. Then if a listing comes up that isn't close to what I have, it would ring a bell for me to look closer to make sure whether it would work or not.

Tire Rack is a very ethical company and at least they will take them back. It is disappointing though.
