Took my car in because it wouldn't start, also for an oil change. They charged me $40.00 just to tell me my battery was dead. Paid for the oil change AND $40.00 for them to tell me i had a dead battery. They wanted $160.00 to put in a new battery so we just jump started the car, went to Costco and replaced it ourselves for $70.00.

They charged you $40 to diagnose the problem with your car. What exactly are you complaining about? Most dealers will charge more. Your car doesn't start and you don't know what's wrong. What's it worth to you to find out which component is the problem? It could be the battery, starter or alternator. You obviously aren't equipped to do the diagnostic yourself (or you would have done it). Most auto parts stores will test a battery for free, or you can buy your own load tester for around $40-$50. But, that will involve a bit of effort on your part. If you just want to hand it over to the dealer and have them tell you why your car doesn't start, you should expect to pay something for that service.

Toyota Dealership again!!!! Find a local mechanic that specializes in Japanese vehicles, and have all of your work done there instead! Compare the HOURLY RATE that the local Toyota Dealership charges to a local mechanic's hourly rate. In some cases it's almost DOUBLE!!!! There are Toyota Dealerships that charge over $100 PER HOUR for their labor!!!! I found a great mechanic where I live, and he charges $65 per hour! He has over 20 years of experience, & he specializes in German cars! The local Porsche Dealership quoted me a little over $1,500 to replace 4 rotors, & put all new brake pads on a 911 Carrera! Our local mechanic did all the labor for under $200. I purchased all the parts online instead of having him supply the parts. I simply 'Googled' this- PORSCHE PARTS, and was able to get all the new parts over the web! (FREE SHIPPING TOO!) GUESS WHAT? The warehouse that actually sent the parts was located less than 10 miles from where I live! Now I know where they are located because one of the parts was inncorrect. I simply drove over to the warehouse and exchanged the inncorrect part for the correct part. Maybe I can go DIRECTLY to the warehouse now and save even MORE MONEY the next time I need parts, right? You can probably 'Google' this- TOYOTA PARTS, and buy your parts the next time you need them for your vehicle!! ANYONE can do this, right? It's nice to save money, isn't it? Paying a total of around $600 to have all new brakes & rotors put on a 911 Carrera sure is better than paying $1,500, wouldn't you agree? That's a SAVINGS of $900, isn't it? I'm Karl, and I approve this Update! P.S. Don't forget to 'Google' this- ENGINE SLUDGE, and go to the consumeraffairs website about Toyota Engine Problems and read all of them. Make sure to click on 'Airbags' and read all of those complaints too! BE SAFE!!!!
