I have an interview scheduled in less than one day, could someone tell me, if working as a scout is a good job or not. Will i be cheated for my hard work scouting? One other thing, it seems that most of these complaints are posted in the Florida/Texas areas...I will be going to NY. I have to drive 4 hours to be interviewed, but im moving there anyways. Basically someone let me know if it's a waste of my time. PLEASSSEEE

WILHELMINA / TCT OFFICE IN SACRAMENTO

Hi to Tara who asked about the interview in Sacramento. DON'T GO! It's a *numbers game*. You could work for 30 days and barely meet their quota and they won't give you a dime, except that they will have made almost $30,000 off of you!! (You are supposed to have 30 people sign by the end of 30 days or you do NOT get paid a cent...you will have worked for FREE). It is an unrealistic goal they have set for everyone to make. They end up losing a lot scouts by that time because, according to them, people aren't used to having all the freedom after leaving a 9-5 job. The real reason is because they realize it's a scam. That is why Wilhelmina/TCT has a continuous stream of DREAM JOB ads on Monster.com You see the ads all of the time because of all of the TURNOVER. AND, you never meet Virginia Woodward, the person supposedly responding to your email. She's in Orlando. Surprise, surprise. Good luck to those who decide to stay on with them. If you can, get your hands on the Dateline segment that ran a few Saturdays ago...reveals EVERYTHING.

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

What is true, and what isnt. Let me fill all you morons in. I am actually currently employed as a TE in orlando and I do know the truth. Its all a lie. from the moment you answer the job ad on monster.com to the thousands upon thousands of $ you take from people for absolutely nothing. When you search positions on monster.com the TCT ad says you'll average 75 to 115k per year. HAHAHA! Elliot must have meant what his salary was. When you answer the ad 95% of all the current TE's didnt even know it was a sales job. I guess the employers are wonderfull at wording things in their favor. Well anyway, I want everyone to know that the TE's arent at fault. Everyone in the world does what they need to do to make a living. But how can a company employee be at fault when the upper management LIED TO THE TE's TOO. Every employee in that building knows that its a rip off after about 3 or 4 weeks. C'mon a thousand bucks to promote ugly people trying to pretend thier Rebecca gayheart to agencys knowbody has ever heard of. Who the hell is susys models anyways. hahaha! Elliot does these motivational speeches every single day about how we have to believe in the product, to think positive(the man thinks hes Tony Robbins). What I want to know is how positive he was when he was behind bars. lets be honest now, the dateline show not only told future and past consumers this was a SCAM, it also told the TE's. And since the dateline thing aired their sales #'s have been more than horrible. The sale floor manager Armand(what kind of mom would name a kind that) yells at the managers about how the TE's arnt doing their job, and that its all our fault. Armand said the Dateline thing would just blow over. Hey you dumb fat as$, its national TV and my friend even saw it using sap in japan. How the hell can that go away. The upper managemnt are all scam artists. Bad money hunry little nazzi's running around the SALES FLOOR yelling at you if your #'s are down, and patting you on the head like a puppy dog if your hot. They intimidate the crap out of you so you'll just shut your mouth and not say anything. And if somebody has the balls to(good job L) they'll fire you. To models; credible agencys and clients would never........I repeat never have anything to do with Lou peralman. Its only called wilhelmina because of $$$. Their just using a past credible name to smoke screen the truth. Wilhelmina Artist management(WAM) is in no way assoiciated with Wilhelmina Scouting Network(WSN). So save your money, or send it to me personally. ill get more done for you than they will. Heres a couple of more things you need to know about WSN from ME another employee with WSN.....Lets start with the sales technique first of all this isnt your only chance and yes you can go on a payment plan but Im not going to tell you that because I need to make my money/ dont you want to know why we push for credit cards so much??/ Well we get paid $100 FOR EVERY CREDIT CARD AND $20 FOR EVERY CHECK!!!! We use to get more but we were told we couldnt take bad checks anymore so we stopped....Lets talk a little about being selective.... you are selected if you have a CREDIT CARD thats all we care about. I dont care if you modeled or you got ripped off by john casablanca I care about your credit limit and how much you have in the bank. WHAT you still dont have the money?? okay lets harass your parents, faimly, or friends surley they want to sponsor you in this big ripp off....dont worry Ill get on the phone with them and tell them how plus size modeling is in and how this is your only chance to do it and make them feel like s**t for not helping you with this dream. still dont have the cash okay then I guess Ill have to transfer you to someone else at ext 3615 we like to call it BE BACK who will harass you for another 20 min and take a down payment of 95 a month. oh but I thought there was no payment plan??? Im sorry to say this is all a big lie and soon the whole company will go down. ITs all good though I think that I have learned my lessons and will soon move on. I dont want to bad mouth upper managment because its human nature to want to make money. This is the first guy again. I almost forgot to talk about the day Dateline came to the orlando office with cameras. The upper management requested that every TE rip down all compnay supplied material from the walls of thier cubicles. Now why on earth would they want to do that? I dont understand elliot. Why are we doing this armand? Its so the place looks nice and neat for dateline. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They asked us to take down all the incriminating evidence so the dateline reporter wouldnt see it. List of clients we name drop, like Guess, Gap, maybeline, etc. Or figures they gave to us to convince talent(or so called talent) that this was the greatest thing since sliced bread. This company is about to fall apart. The TE's dont believe in it anymore, and the scare tactics arnt working any more. Has anyone ever seen Boiler Room, or maybe Erin Brokovich. One more thing. Im a TE. I havnt had a lunch break the whole time i worked there. doesnt the law state you get a 30 minute break to eat. especially when you have to work a 12 hour shift. Here are about 50 TE's assembled, looking for legal representation and ready to file a class action lawsuit against the company. if your a good lawyer and you want to help, then email us through Rip-off Reprot, and they will contact us and others who have beenin contact with this web site. We are also prepared to step forward and reveal any secrets that the media is wanting to inform to the public. So if you want the real scoop, email us too. We personally apologize to any people we ripped off in the last 6 months. please understand, that we were lied to aswell and believed in the crap we were saying. Oh yeah 1 more thing. as of tomorrow...............I QUIT?

Actual Interview with Wilhelmina Scouting Network, ..Just a warning

#5Consumer Comment

Sun, April 13, 2003

I responded to an advertisement for a *Dream Job* with Transcontinental Talent and got an email back from Wilhelmina Scouting Network (WSN) from Virginia Woodward, stating she looked forward to meeting me. When I arrived at the GROUP INTERVIEW, I was greeted by the regional director, and not Ms. Woodward, who apparently works in Florida. I went prepared with information obtained from this website and the BBB. When asked how their company responds to the many complaints filed against them, the director stated that every company that experiences exponential growth has a few bumps in the road. I said a few complaints are understandable, but not HUNDREDS. Also, I mentioned I noticed they advertise every other day for talent scouts. They excitedly stated, yes, they were always looking for new people. I told them it left me with the impression they have a lot of turnover. They stated that yes, they did, because people aren't used to going from a 9-5 job to a job where you have so much freedom. The literature handed out to us stated we would have to work without pay for 30 days to get 30 people to actually sign with WSN before earning anything. So, those who are just shy of achieving that amount aren't paid at all!! Also, if you look on the WSN website, most of the *Employees of the Month* have only been with the company for one month!!! I went out of curiosity and to see what they had to say, as a good friend of mine, who was promoted quickly, was let go mysteriously the day after she questioned why her cell phone bill wasn't being reimbursed after the company promised to do so. Also, the office is a small suite in a large office building, hardly decorated. I'm surprised they don't make it more inviting for prospective models as they walk in the door to make it look like they're a real company..Looks like they just moved in!! Just a warning......

TCtalent now Wilhelmina Scouting Network, same ripoff! ..My name is my integrity and credebility, and for me to associate my name with such a "company", there are no words to explain my disappointment.

#6UPDATE Employee

Sun, April 13, 2003

I'm currently an employee of TC Talent and now Wilhelmina Scouting Network, and after reading all these reports from various people around the country that have been negatively affected by this company, I'm am sure I'm am going to be handing in my resignation asap. I've been employed by the company for a period of seven (7) months and my net earnings to date with this company have been less than $200 (two hundred dollars)! TCT told us we had the potential to make a six-figure salary as a scout... I should have been smarter!!! So much for that generous compensation plan they promised me and the other scouts!!

When I was initially hired for the job, I thought that all my years of experience in the industry could help me gain a better position so I can possibly further my career. I was wrong. I'm very perceptive and not nieve, and I'm disappointed in myself in having become involved with such a company. I especially feel for everyone that I involved in with this company, they are the ones that are losing out, both financially and emotionally. Dreams are crushed, and money is lost when everything comes to it. My name is my integrity and credebility and for me to associate my name with such a "company", there are no words to explain my disappointment. I would like to take the time to apologize to everyone that got involved with TCT due to my "scouting" them, or "persuasion." There are a lot of things that I learned about TCTalent since day one, and every response from victims, ex-employees, or such, in relation to this company are valid and true.

There is so much more that I would like to say about TCT, but i'll be writing a book if I did that. The other complaints on this site will probably do that for me.

If you have been scouted, or are currently involved, or are thinking about being employed by TCT, please take the moment to read every complaint on this great and resourceful site. It is sad to know that this is still going on in this day and age.

Please take the time and the effort to do you research on your career, whether it is modeling, acting, singing, or an industry professional.... If an offer is made in ANY way by TCT, do not even think twice, or better yet, don't give it any thought, since ultimately this company is a scam.

To those who are considering employment with TCT and now Wilhelmina Scouting Network which is also under Lou Perlman ... think again.

#9UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sun, April 06, 2003

I was one of those who worked it for months and was lucky to see a 60 hour week as my hours were far more. There was one good thing I had so many business expenses (which are not reimbursed in any way) that I had enough to totally eliminate my taxes for 2002. Unfortunately, it was a rare occasion to see a meaningful paycheck, meaning at $400 gross a week on consistent basis. Most times it was well under $100 and my paychecks represented what the majority of scouts made.

To those who are considering using either TCT or Wilhelmina Scouting Network REMEMBER THIS. Logic rides the horse of emotion. Translated that means Don't let anyone hype you with the script they use for everyone, telling them what a great look you have. If you have the talent (looks or otherwise), the burning desire to achieve your goals and the willingness to do whatever it takes to make your dreams reality then you can find another way besides TCT and now Wilhelmina Scouting Network.

If you can't take three days to think it over and make a decision that is right for you, is this something you want to get involved in from the get go. Don't take my word for it, read all the information here on RipoffReport.com and you can see the common thread both about employment and using TCT and now Wilhelmina Scouting Network as a possible vehicle.

You have all the information you need to make the right decision for yourself. The only question is are you willing to accept the realities that are staring you in the face?

TCTALENT rips off everyone! Employees AND Consumers, ..e-mail from Monster.com saying that they found me a job.

#10UPDATE EX-employee responds

Wed, April 02, 2003

I got an e-mail from Monster.com saying that they found me a job. It was called "Dream-Job" so I clicked on it. The owner of TCTalent in Houston wrote me and said they only had a few openings. I went and something smelled fishy from the moment I went to the room the secretary sent me to for my interview.

There were 20 other people in there and we just sat in silence waiting on the person who was going to do our interview. We found out it was a group interview and we had to do different activities while the office directors observed. Every last one of us was hired.

I spent 3 weeks going out every day scouting for good looking people, giving them my little shpeel. A couple people said they had heard of TCTalent and that it was a fraud, but I did not listen. I knew that I had an awesome job, I couldn't wait to make all this money they promised me... 700 bucks a week plus bonuses!!! But then one day I was on the internetand a girl sent me an instant massage that had a web link on it.

I clicked, and it showed all kinds of BBB reports and news stories from Orlando (where the company is based). It even said that the company draws people in by calling the scout position a "Dream Job".

There were a slew of unhappy customers that spent the 800 dollars to be on their website, and never got one call. The company does what they say they will do, they put your pictures on the net, but then they just leave you there. They do not promise success, but they make you feel like you fit into these strict guidelines and make you feel like you will be "successful" in their company. They tell you that all these agencies and companies like MTV look at their website and pull talent from it. Really, they accept everyone who has the 800 dollars to piss in the wind. One news story from Orlando featured an ex office director who was in tears because of how she, along with other TCTalent executives, made talentless people feel like they could make it big, just to take their money. She admitted to using pressure tactics to get people to sign the contract. They would tell people "If you don't sign right now, you will not get the chance again..., this is your chance to be famous".

I have seen millions of stories, and alerts from the BBB, warning people to stay away from TCTalent, Options talent, e-models, and the other 15 names it has gone by. I wish I would have found out before I spent 3 weeks of hard daily scouting for 0 dollars. I did not get a dime from TCTalent, but even if ONE person I scouted ended up signing the contract, they just made 800 dollars off me. That is how the company works. They lure you you in by telling you that you will make all of this money, when really they set impossible expectations out of you so you will either give up, or fail. They have free workers, and I got suckered into being one of them. I feel even sorrier for the people who spend their money on this company!

Account Manager - Transcontinental, largest scouting company in the world

#11UPDATE Employee

Mon, March 24, 2003

There are several small model scouting companies both online and through other means. Transcontinental, however, is the largest scouting company in the world. As a matter of fact, we believe tctalent.com is larger than all other scouting companies combined. This is the advantage we carry from having entered the digital world years ahead of the competition, and the strong guidance we receive from the members of our board. Stunning models have traditionally graced the pages of magazines, circulars, newspapers, and billboards all over the world. Models also appear in ads on television and in movies. The internet threatens to eclipse all of these media combined in the next few years. Advertisers on the internet are learning what advertisers of other media have known all along models drive sales so the demand for models is ever increasing. We are glad that you took the time to research our company, whether you are a potential model or a potential employee it is wise to do your homework. As the largest talent scouting company in the world, with over 5000 people from the United States to China to Australia, you will find a great deal of information about us. Some of it is exceptional, some good and we of course have our share of critics. While we don't always agree with our critics, we do realize that they keep us on our toes, and help us strive to improve the quality of our service. In fact, many of the changes we have made to our service over the last few years have come from the suggestions and constructive criticism of our customers. There is however a new breed of terrorist on the Internet. These are extortionists who try to hold up legitimate corporations for money. You might see postings by such companies with headlines like "model scams" or "rip-off report". These companies pose as "consumer advocates" and post negative information about companies. The information is either taken out of context or completely false. Both companies have repeatedly tried to extort money from Trans Continental Talent and in exchange they agreed to take down their negative postings about us. One of the companies is asking for $500,000 the other one a mere $200,000 to remove our company from their website. In the past, companies simply sued such people for slander and went on their way. With the advent of the Internet, such blackmailers can hide behind international addresses and phony names. Trans Continental Talent will not under any circumstances pay blackmail money to these extortionists and we encourage any responsible corporation to follow suit. Recently, the federal government arrested a former FBI agent for similar types of extortionist tactics. Once again we appreciate your doing research on our company and if you have any specific questions do not hesitate to contact us at: [email protected] TCT has not received any notice of suit by the Attorney General's Office. To date all meetings with the Attorney General's Office have been at the request of TCT, and according to the Attorney General's Office there has been no determination of any violations at all. TCT understands that the majority of Attorney General complaints received have been BBB complaints forwarded to them by the BBB and were not filed directly with the Attorney General's Office The Attorney General's Office also has complaint files open with other national companies as a matter of public record such as: American Express, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Cigna, AOL, First Union (Wachovia), and many more. ----------------------- Lou Peralman statement regarding AG office inverstigation of TCT: 2/16/03 "the AG's office has a duty to investigate any and all inquiries, and TCT itself proactively contacted the AG's office for input, and has benefited from their counsel. I have been assureed by the AG's office that there have been no findings of wrongdoing. Trans Continental Enterainment, Records, Management, Television, Studios, Pictures, Publishing and Productions stands behind TCT as a vital member of the Trans Continental family." "While much is being made of the approximately 300 inquiries from customers and some ubsubstantiated internet gossip, this relatively small number of consumer inqueiries was collected from all 70 offices worldwide and accumulated over three years of business with more than 100,000 customers. Well over 99% of TCT customers are indeed satisfied and the company successfully processed over two million talent opportunites in 2002." "TCT is a sensible, hassle-free service enabling aspring talent to advertise themselves to the industry online. It is an eBay or Monster.com for talent. and I took a majority ownership position in the company because it is on leading edge of the industry's future. I plan to combine TCT's strengths with my proven track record in television and music to discover fresh new talent and provide innovative programming." ------------------ What Agencies Say March 2003 Elite Singapore Transcontinental staff is amazing. They are so friendly and helpful, especially the Director of Model Services, Erin. Through Transcontinental, I have found several models that I intend to use and at least one with supermodel potential. Vanessa Loo Transcontinental works with Elite's Singapore office because new models often work in Europe or Asia prior to signing with a major U.S. agency. ----------------- Fusion Model Management I think it's a great idea. I'd definitely say it saves agencies a lot of time, money, definitely takes the hard work out of going on conventions and scouting. I think it's a great concept and it's the way of the future. ----------------- The Milar Group LTD We are an event and promotional staffing company that covers all of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Michigan and West Virginia. We have been able to use your online database to view potential models in multiple cities. You have also been very efficient and professional in getting the contact information for individual models to us free of charge-frequently with a short time demand. We currently have some of the models that we found on your database working large, brand-name events. Your services are an excellent source of recruiting-saving us the time, effort, and travel that would otherwise be required to staff our events. Megan Milar ------------------- The Foley Agency Our agency couldn't have done without Transcontinental when we were booking an event in Chicago this past week. It was a last-minute request from one our corporate clients. The feedback was excellent and the managers said they would hire back the models that we found through your company. Thank you for finding the right models for each client. Vicki L. Foley (Transcontinental has purchased several scouting companies, websites, and web domains. Some of the comments were made about these companies or experiences with those companies prior to their being purchased by Transcontinental.) While Transcontinental has thousands of clients who regularly use our site, we have listed a few of the top agencies including Wilhelmina, New York Model Management, and L.A. Models on the site as they are world recognized and have selected models from our program, but new models are more likely to get started with smaller, local agencies. Thank you and have a good day,

My situation Lou Pearlman's boy

#12UPDATE Employee

Mon, March 24, 2003

This isn't my real name just for security purposes because I hear that a few people are gonna be sued big time for reports that they've written (no one from this site I believe), but I've been working there for quite a while and Tammy is totally right. It is very difficult someone to recieve good money on commission at this company. The main goal for every scout is to make base salary which is a steady paycheck plus commission. But only a few people from each office is actually on base. and they've been with the company for about a year. At that time it was called Options Talent and they were only charging about $495 which is a significant difference to $795. Therefore it would be easier for people to get enrolled. They do teach you to throw Lou Pearlman's name around but it's tough because all three boy bands that he discovered aren't around (or as popular as a few years ago) now except for Justin Timberlake who is with a band that sued him. But I just didn't like the fact that we had to talk people into coming into an open call then watch them leave while giving us a wierd look like "you never said anything about $800." I always feel bad about it. I want to be a sports and entertainment agent and I joined this company to see what it was like. Transcontinental has the right concepts but they are doing things the wrong way. So I'm just continuing to study the company and read articles about it. I will still scout but I will give the talent all of the information before they come to the open call. If you actually talk to them and just tell them to come to an open call to see for themselves, they actually do come anyway. I give them every option possible such as helping them get pictures and finding other agencies that could be beneficial to them. As for models: Transcontinental does get people work but here is the issue. I used to think that all the people that came were potential models with a good look. That was the case because the scouts were bringing in good looking people. Recently, I saw a commercial on MTV that advertised TCT. Now I was wondering "Why are they showing commercials?" What happened is that the numbers from scouts were declining so they boosted them up to get more people in. The thing is that you had people coming in that had absolutely no right to be there. Not to be mean or anything but there was no chance of them being a model. BUT, there would be a chance of them being in a commercial or something because there is no specific look. The sad thing about it is that people that call in that saw the commercial are coming not knowing what they are getting into. There was a pretty young girl who came from all the way from Albany with her mother and a suitcase. They said they made the 3 hour drive cause she wanted to model. She was all dressed up and wanted to change into her boots but I told her it wouldn't make a difference there is no photo shoot. I realized that she has no idea what's going on and her mother is probably gonna pay that money just so that her daughter could be happy. You should have seen how excited this girl looked. So I came to this conclusion...TCT does not care how people look they just want people to enroll. They don't reject people which they say do. They are not gonna stop people from paying money. BUT, if you are very good looking YOU WILL GET WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. I know people that enrolled and are getting work with this company and I'm not talking about b.s. jobs that some people mentioned. If you look like a regular Joe or "Sally Plain and Tall" you may get emails but you most likely won't get the work you're looking for. Take it as it's given cause it's not necessarily bad mouthing the company. I'm stuck in the middle of whether it's a scam or not because the people that bad mouth the company are right in what they say, but the people that defend them are also right. I just wish that I knew all of this when I started working here. I would have approached people a lot more differently. It is a fun job, you get to meet a lot of people and you may catch a future celeb here and there.( I actually met a georgous lady that was in a few commercials that I recognized her from. If I wasn't a scout I wouldn't have the balls to talk to her, but she turned out to be an absolute sweetheart and we had a 10 min conversation) I will still approach people but I will help them out in my own way. Like I said I want to represent people whether it be acting, modeling, music, or athletics. Hey, maybe I'll be the next Jerry Maguire. So before you run in to this make sure you think about it heavily. And the next time someone approaches you about modeling, and they give you a card with writing on the back. Realize that they are new scouts and they don't know better, but you should still check it out anyway, have a conversation with them. It would be kind of funny that the talent actaully knows more info than the scout. But just don't lash out at them cause they are nervous when they approach you, the best thing to do is to converse and share info. I'm actually a very honest person and I let things like this eat ayway at my concious. Right now I'm contacting all the peopel that I have scouted to explain to them there options that they can take. And another thing, that big announcement with Wilhemina and TCT is mind boggling because they told us that AFTER fashion rock there will be a huge announcement that will revolutionize the company. When I checked out the website, it was scary because the only thing they changed is the name of the site. IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING. I'll be getting back to everyone about that. Till then.... No Harm No Foul

Being on commission only makes it even harder, so unless you are willing to put in 60+hours a week, every week, accept that 99% of the people you scout won't show up then go for it. Just be aware of all the possibilites and believe nothing, even if you are hearing it from the source.; I have "heard", no proof of this, that some scouts are on salary and they never had an enrollment and I haven't seen any talent come in with their ID, so you draw your own conclusion. I hope this helps -- I'm giving it a little more time but I don't see a big enough change coming to make this my life long career, sadly enough as it is fun.

Hello--
I was just wondering if you chose to go to the interview or not? How was it? Are you working for TCT now? Your response could help me!! Thanks!
