I signed my son up for a high school trip in 2016. I purchased trip cancellation insurance and paid the premium that permitted cancellation "for any reason" up until the day before travel.
A year before the scheduled departure date of this trip, I cancelled this trip. I filed a claim in July of 2017.
For the best part of a year I submitted and resubmitted documents. I was told told they were understaffed and sorry for delays. I was never asked for anythign additional.
I logged into their customer website to check claim status and never saw anything signifcant for progress. Calls were answered with vague reasons for no claim status and no payment.
I checked again this evening (August 18, 2018) and the status of the claim says Closed Due to Insufficient Information. I was never asked for any additional information and quite frrankly, besides the already provided travel documents and trip cancellation notice and proof of premium what other information is there?
I bought this insurance through a high school sanctioned trip. This company is a giant rip-off. This claim should have been paid. I bought the insurance because I knew there was a chance the trip couldn't happen. I even called the company to make sure "any reason" means any reason. I was reassured "no problem." I can't believe this. I am self employed and run two businesses to get by and this company fleeces the average person. Talking to someone is nearly impossible.
