TRAXXAS DOES NOT WARRANTY! READ THE BELOW REVIEW YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT WHAT THEY DO TO CUSTOMERS! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EITHER! BUYER BEWARE!
Not following through with there advertised claims of " Warranty Services". Traxxas states on there website, hobby stores and to any potential buyer that... Lifetime Battery Exchange Program Traxxas stands by Power Cell LiPo batteries with the best warranty and exchange program available. For the first year of ownership, Traxxas will replace any battery found to be defective at no cost. After one year, any Power Cell LiPo battery in any condition can be exchanged for a new equivalent battery for just 50% of the new pack's retail price, no questions asked. I recently purchased " December 8th 2014" two TRA2872x Traxxas 3s 5000mah 25c lipo batteries to go along with my traxxas erevo.
Immediately upon arrival from shipping the batteries were tested on my charger and found to be "Unbalanced Cell's". I called traxxas immediately and spoke to a representative who stated " that is normal and to use them and it should balance out". I did just that and they still stayed unbalanced after every BALANCE CHARGE but only by 0.08 of each cell. On 4-11-15 I balance charged the batteries and took them out in my stock brushless erevo and after 5 minutes of driving noticed my truck was weird. I pulled my truck in to notice the batteries were both puffed inside of the erevo tray's. I immediately pulled them out and they were hot.
I ran home and tested them on a cell checker and they were all well within standard opperating range they were in the 3.90 area of each cell. I was so concerned with the heat of the lipo and my apartment complex that I ran luke warm water into a 5 gallon bucket and dummped a whole bottle of morton salt into that bucket and stirred and dropped the lipos in there and monitored closely as to not have a fire in my place. The following day half way through the day the lipos were sucked back in " not puffy" and water and had greenish sludge/tint. I removed the lipos and checked voltage with a very slight reading of less than 1.00 a cell and immediately threw them away.
I called Traxxas on 4-13-15 " the next day they were opened" to let them know that " Hey I just bought these batteries and something happend because they puffed up and were really hot". To my dismay the Traxxas employee told me that I would have to pay 50% of retail to get new ones. I told him that the warranty service states that " Within a year any battery found to be defective will be replaced at no cost" He laughed and said " Yea you'll have to pay 50%. I told him okay fine can I email you a copy of my receipt and he said no to only mail " USPS" it in. That's unfair.
I understand providing proof and will do that! Basically traxxas tells everyone they will replace within a year if anything goes wrong...well I have only had these 3 to 4 months and they want me to pay 50% off there retail of $74.99 and so forth when I shouldn't have to pay anything. I bought the batteries and have been doing this hobby for over a decade and know how to handle batteries. I shouldn't have to pay anything for new batteries. If they advertise that warranty service before you buy, they need to follow through after the purchase. I buy batteries based off warranty's as a "Just in case type measure"
THEY WROTE ME THIS!
Hello Greg,
The only reason you would need to discharge a LiPo battery in saltwater is if it was puffed. A puffed or swollen LiPo battery is caused by incorrect charging or over discharging. This is not a defect with the battery.
You already called in about this and they explained it. I am sorry if they were not clear. They offered the replacement batteries at $50 for each battery which comes off the TRAXXAS LIST PRICE of $100 for each battery. The total for TWO batteries would be $100 plus $5 shipping. Sending your batteries to Traxxas is a REQUIREMENT to qualify for the 50% replacement. They waived this requirement in your case for some reason. Whether or not you accept the offer is up to you.
Regards,
Steve
