Doing business as Family Fun Saver, the Trilegiant Corporation keeps charging my credit card each month for nearly a year despite confirmed cancellation late in 2007. I never bought anything from them. American Express corrects the claim I dispute expeditiously but this company does business as a consistent nuisance. Stay Clear.

#2Consumer Suggestion

Thu, July 03, 2008

I am a retention specialist for a phone center. I would like to explain why people think it is so hard to cancel a membership. Please try to understand that even though you are frustrated, the person you are speaking with has a job to do & has guidlines they must follow. Unfortunately, being angry clouds our judgement as the consumers. I am just as guilty of getting defensive & having "selective hearing" when I am at home & faced with similar issues. As a representative of the company they are required to inform you of the benefits of the program before cancellation (a rebuttle as it is called on this website). You must answer clearly "no". Depending on company guidlines, they may be required to try 2 or 3 times. Each time you must reply "no". The thing is people do not pay attention & when the representative asks to keep the membership active many times we are just wanting to get them off the phone or to shut up. So, we reply w/ a "yes", "sure", "ok" or something & they have kept your membership. If the membership is cancelled, you will be provided with a confirmation number. I suggest to write this on the credit card statement that you are inquiring about & obtain it in your records. We are all human, & errors sometimes happen. You may have a valid confirmation number, & something happened with their computer system, or they mistyped something. You simply call back with the confirmation number & they can determine the operator that assisted you & the date that you called to resolve the problem quickly. PLEASE NOTE: that by calling your credit card company & disputing the charge, the credit card company may refund a charge back but unless you actually call the company being charged, it could very well be showing in their system as still active. You have to call & cancel to avoid continued charges.
