freecreditreport.com is nothing but a scam. Without even notifying me, they fraudulently billed me after the end of the "free trial period". Usually, most companies would have the decency to notify you of the end of your trial and cancel it. However, this company thinks that it is fair and legal to simply take money out of ones account.

This needs to stop NOW. I have lost quite a lot of money and would love to get it back, but because of this companies lack of heart there is probably going to be no way to get it back. What's worst is once I learned that they were stealing my hard earned money, it took me days to finally cancel the service.

When I first called the number to cancel, it said the number had no service. Immediately I called back and finally got an automated message saying the times that they are open. The next morning at the crack of dawn I was determined to cancel the service and give them a piece of my mind. After talking to a number of people and being redirected every which way, I finally cancelled my "trial".

To conclude, this has caused me so much grief and money. This company needs to refund ALL of the victims that they have fraudulently stolen from. Please, someone out there with authority... do something.

You're missing the point

#2Consumer Suggestion

I think you're missing the point of the report, fcrbeliever. While you may be offering a solid product that is well worth the money, it's hard to deny that your company would be outof business if it weren't for all those "free trial" customers that failed to recognize that they were enrolled in a recurrent biling situation. It seems like porno sites were the first ones to use this ploy - the "free trial" that, for some reason, requires a credit card. And then BAM - when the consumer fails to recognize that they need to actively cancel the account, they are hit with the normal monthly charges until they notice it on their credit card bill. By this point, it seems as though savvy consumers are on to this and won't fall prey to what can be characterized as a scam. In my opinion, recurrent billing following a free trial is a scam unless the consumer is given the option, up front, of not renewing unless they actively choose to do so. There's no reason not to do this unless you are trying to trick people into paying for something that they no longer want. Long and short: the passive renewal paradigm is specifically designed to fool the naive and, thus, is presumptively a scam. By the way - unlimited access to your Experian credit report is about as useful as unlimted access to a car with no engine. Experian is but one of three reporting agencies, and tends to be the least used by creditors. Want proof? Go to annualcreditreport.com, pull up all three of your credit reports, and see how much more information is included in your Transunion and Equifax reports. The identity theft insurance sounds like a great idea, and a great value, in theory. I would like to see how it operates in real life. Any way you can post a copy of the contract for us? Best regards!

I was a customer of FCR and now i work for them. that should tell u something. i am a firm believer of the product that the company offers. I have more of a claim on why we shouldn't give refunds. We offer One free credit report with score in trial, 3 bureau monitoring, and 50,000 dollars of Identity Theft Insurance and you can dispute inacurate items on the credit report, then After trial you get unlimited experian reports and scores. If you were to not have a membership its gonna cost you 14.95 on average to purchase a new report and score. It tells you during the ordering process that if you DO NOT cancel the membership in the 30 day FREE trial of the membership, then you WILL be billed the disclosed amount after the trial is over. If you forget to call and cancel that is on you. When you rent a movie and forget to turn it in on time Do you not get charged a late fee. Any individual can loose more money in one year due to the cost of recovering from identity theft than what you spend in a year with our membership. For example, if the fee on the membership you choose is 12.95 for the triple advantage membership you pay 155.40 in a calander year. On a statistic i just read from (http://idtheft.about.com/od/dataandstat1/p/GeneralStats.htm) the average individual who has been a victim of identity theft reported a loss of 500$. So if we are fraudulently giving you 50,000 dollars of Identity theft insurance, then we are victimizing you right.(sarcasm to those who miss this). Then why in the world aren't you using that insurance we offer you to pay for what you lose. Kinda silly of us really. would you rather be a victim paying 155.40 a year or would you rather lose the average of 500 dollars a year or possibly more without the membership. Hmm i think 155.40 in a year sounds better.
