Did you co-sign? If no - you are not responsible in any way. And they cannot talk to you about his debt - other than try to get contact information. Stating they were collecting a debt is not allowed. If yes, then you are responsible for paying it off for him and they can discuss with you Have you requested any debt validation? Have you received anything in writing from them? If nothing - based on your short post - I suggest you learn about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. - this law protects you.
