Long story short. I rented a house in Phoenix, and when I moved out I was NOT refunded my deposits, and on TOP OF that, I was sent a huge bill for repairs to the house... things that were not in need of repair, things I wasnt responsible for (NORMAL wear and tear), and things that were listed as items NEEDING repair before I moved in.

I'm not saying I wasn't responsible for some minor issues like weeds in the back yard or a missing light shade, but the bill was in the thousands of dollars! Things like re-drywalling the garage (was not drywalled when I moved in)... repainting the entire house (which was in a sorry state when I moved in)... and ridiculously expensive repairs to the linoleum flooring (which was already worn and torn up when I moved in).

These items and many more were on the bill, for which I had proof that I wasn't responsible for, in the form of photos when I moved in, and a move-in inspection with a detailed report of the status of the house when I moved in which was signed off on by a member of the company. AND a move-out inspection which was also signed of on. NEW items showed up on the bill which were not issues at all.

I have since filed a complaint with the BBB, which was closed at one point because the company (United Metro) did not respond to it. It was reopened and I answered every question the same day or next day, with all the proof and documentation. 7 days later the complaint was closed again... again because the company refused to respond. I have been in touch with the BBB handler off line, and she has assured me they can re-open the complaint at anytime... but can't force the company do to anything. I'm familiar with their role... but my problem with them is that they wont even mark this down as an unresolved issue, because the company just doesnt respond. Which I dont get, if they dont respond, thats BAD isnt it?

Anyways, I just wanted to put my frustration out there in another place. Hopefully I can stop someone from renting with these people. Funny thing is... they are terrible with paper work and communication, until they bill you. I had to literally HOUND them to get to rent this place in the first place, it was nuts. Stay away from United Metro Properties!

If there are any lawyers out there willing to take up my case to attack some slumlords, feel free to contact me!

No lawyer needed.  If you have all the proof that you say you do, it shouldn't take very long to get a judgement in your favor.

Good Luck.
