I write on behalf of my parents who are distracted and somewhat overwhelmed by my father's Parkinson's disease. United Vacation Network sent my parents a post card (apparently it is their marketing company which they now claim they have absolutely NO association with) for a free "First Class" cruise. My parents have now learned that "all cabins on these cruises are considered first class," and if they want an outside cabin or any other "special" accomodation, they would have to pay for an upgrade. I could continue......but you get the idea! The many ways in which they were misled is staggering, luckily they have everything carefully documented.

When my parents realized that they had been taken advantage of, they asked for their money back and were immediately and rudely refused. It is interesting that the "customer service representative" is also corporate counsel (I believe her name is Christy)!! Basically, the "responsiveness" that the company claims is, "you signed it, it's a contract, and anyone who promised you anything has nothing to do with us."

Unfortunately, this company preys on older people like my parents who can be intimidated and simply exhausted by their tactics. In an effort to resolve the situation (and since my mother got nowhere with "customer service"), I e-mailed the Officer/Director of the company as listed with the Florida Division of Corporations, Donna Loher. Not surprisingly, we have waited over a month and have had NO response.

My parents will probably have to file in small claims court, please keep me posted on other's outcomes.

Dear Christy, I know you are well aware of my parents' situation by now and your efforts to claim that your company is always responsive and fulfills its obligantions creates incredible frustration for both my parents and me. A response from a corporate attorney and true customer service are two VERY different things. We understand that you are an attorney and must word your responses very carefully. You are also aware, however, that my parents have clear proof that your company and "the marketing company" operate from the same place. My parents received a letter from UVN on UVN stationary in an envelope with the return address of the marketing company, with which you claim you have absolutely no affiliation! I know that you will do nothing until my parents' take legal action, and that makes me sad because they will be completely exhausted by such action. My advice to other consumers: please don't get involved with United Vacation Network. I am currently researching whether or not Carnival Cruise Lines is aware that UVN (or "it's marketing company") are using their name. I'm sure they'll be interested to know that my parents and their friends have bad feelings about Carnival due to the unethical practices of United Vacation Network. Sincerely, Deirdre
