Leaving Las Vegas baggage was opened and items stolen from within. My wife packed a small bag with her jewelry in it figuring they would not see it. I should have told her they x-ray baggage and would see it but I thought she put it in my carry on but she said afterward it would not fit beacuse of the laptop I had in there. It wasn't in the open. It was all in a small green vinyl bag. Also stolen were her hearing aids which the thief might have thought was a box with jewelry in it. So gone are a gold necklace and a gold bracelet that both broke in Vegas. Also numerous sets of earings and bracelets that were mostly costume jewelry but still cost quite a bit. She would have been wearing the 2 gold pieces if they didn't break. She has been getting nothing but the same runaround that everyone else gets. Send them your boarding pass and luggage tags. Fill out a lost baggage form even though the Baggage isn't lost just items stolen from within. The tags were printed with only half the numbers showing so they say we can't prove the luggage was even on the plane. Can't they scan the tags bar code. They want so much paper work filled out it is frustrating but the wife says she will do whatever she has to. Probably all for nothing from what I hear. The thing that gets me is where is the security. Where are the cameras on the employees. An employee can walk out with laptops and jewelry on them or in a bag. So what would stop them from walking in with harmfull items. If the employees are so trusted then why are they able to steal items from baggage so easily. A simple solution would be to expect the same from employees that work in secure areas or just like us passengers, go through a metal detector and have there bags inspected after they are finished for the day. Large companies do it and is not any more an invasion of privacy than it is for passengers on a plane. If they don't like it then get another job!

US Airways may not have stolen items from your luggage. All sorts of people have access to checked baggage. This is why the airlines specifically tell to to CARRY ON valuables. Yours is not the first ROR on stolen items from checked baggage. Frequent travellers always put valuables in a carry on or purse. Follow directions next time. Nobody cares about your used clothing. It will get there just fine.
