US Movers agreed to move me from NC to Oregon in 2001. Initial estimate was about $7,000 and woman at office said they would give me a break for boxed books. Then I didn't hear anything from them till a few days before the scheduled move and I had no alternative but to use them. The men showed up and as they began to load the estimate went up a few thousand. When they weighed at the warehouse it went up to $17,000, no break for books, my goods already in their possession and I had to move.

When I got to Oregon, they were late delivering. Their men called at 11:30 on night and insisted I come to town and guide them to my place. They then had to go rent smaller trucks because they did not follow my advice that a large van could not get down the drive. Then they arrived with 3 Russian speaking workers, (driver, woman friend, another Russian), in an unmarked van, and said I would have to help unload because they could not find help and had to be back on the road at night. Meanwhile the US Mover boss in Greensboro had tried to extort from me payment in advance of delivery. The workers insisted brazenly on a large tip. They did not unpack my things as had been promised. There was breakage and loss. Altogether a very unreliable, deceptive, shoddy and possiblly fraudulent company.
