I have received a phone call at my place of employment on September 4, 2008. From two individuals, one foreign named Eric and one american named Brad Nichole of US National Bank informing me that I had a pay day loan taking out in November 2006 that I didn't pay for. The guy called my job, thinking they where calling my residence asking for me by full name. I answered the phone and stated I was indeed me.
Once I confirmed, the rep proceeded to give my entire name, old address they had on file, a fake bank account number, as well as my entire social over the phone. As well had my email account information.
The rep then proceeded to inform me that I had an oustanding balance of $5,484.87. And that I needed to make arrangments to make payment on this oustanding loan. Stated that I could make a payment of $500.00 now and they would cancel the debt and send me a confirmation email. Showing that I paid the loan off with company so that the sherriff would not placed me into custody.
They stated that the payment needed to be made within 30 minutes. The rep told me that I had charges against me that consisted of, Money Laundering, Check Fraud, and conspiracy to give false information.
I immediately freaked out, and was worried about me loosing my job. They informed me that they would be contacting my payroll department to have it dedcuted from my checks.
At first I thought it was a real thing, but when I asked the rep to provide me with detailed information of when the loan was taking out, he informed me that I can not have the information and that my attorney needed to call back. The rep then stated that they would only release information to my attorney.
I asked the guy for his name, address of the company and where to send the funds. He refused to give me the address and kept insisting that if I didnt comply I would be arrested. As much as I tried to work out arrangements, he refused and kept talking over me.
The rep told me to pay the $500.00 at the time of the phone call or a sherriff and two deputies will come and pick me up at 11A on September 5, 2008. The rep stated that I could send them an apology letter, with two good reasons as to why I didnt make the payment. Also requested me to fax it to (714) 710-7103, with the last 4 digits of my social and to sign the letter.
I asked for them to who the attention to should be, the rep Eric stated that he was going to transfer me to there legal department. So a rep Bryan Nichole got on the line and stated that he was the attorney, and that I needed to send the letter in 15 mins. That if I sent the letter it would help in my case when I went before the judge.
I refused and the rep gave me a false contact number (415)294-9979 to contact them with the payment information. When I attempted to return the call the line rang , went dead and hung up. They placed calls to my place of employment 4 times on September 4, 2008. And once on September 5, 2008.
This company has been calling and harrasing me at my place of employment and would not release any information to me. I have already missed two work days because I have been trying to get this taken care of.
Thinking that this was a scam, I reveresed searched the number (415)294-9979 which turned up to be a landline Global Crossing Local Services Inc in San Francisco CA. That sparked a red flag so I reversed searched the fax number (714) 710-7103 which also was a landline Cox Telcom Inc Silverado CA.
Things just wasn't adding up to what the company was telling me about how much I owed. I didnt sent the letter nor did I give them any banking information. I then called the pay day loan company in which I have been making payments to called Interim Cash Ltd. The company had the exact same information that US National Bank was claming to have.
When I contacted the real company of this, they assured me of no knowledged that this is going on. Since this has occured, I have filed a compalint with the FTC, informing them of my information being sold to another company. As well as will be filing a police report, and making a complaint with the attorney general.
In the future, pay day loans are not a way to go and, putting your personal information on line is not safe as well. I will never use a pay day loan again nor will I be making payments on line.
