Opened my Verizon phone bill today (8/11/04) and found a USBI charge. My first thought was... I'm being charged for someone else's 20 minute phone call to SWEDEN. But when I called 1-800-460-0556 on the back of my bill, the woman tells me it's an internet service and someone in my household had to activate it. It's a service that you pay by the minute.

The customer service woman put a block on the number but I am being held responsible for this $52.60 phone/internet call.

SOLUTION: USBI charges to UK or other International Countries

Almost ALWAYS these charges appear on your phone bill because someone at your home accessed an adult entertainment website and this generated the charge. USBI legally has every right to bill you for this charge because someone was viewing such webcontent that comes with a fee. If the call is made during "awake" hours, it's a sure bet your husband, wife, or kids were viewing porn on the internet, so stop blaming it on the phone companies and own up to it. And just because they claim they didn't do it, don't just go believing your family - hey would you admit you were viewing the stuff if Mom asked and you knew you were going to get in trouble? However, some times they are telling the truth and you can usually tell this because the calls to the UK or Tuvalu or Antigua (or another South Pacific island) will appear on your phone bill from between 1-5am (be careful - this is the time your kids would make these cls or access the porn sites because they think you're sleeping and won't know) and also because sometimes they're for a perfect 20mins. Not 21 and not 23 or 19. Also, when you call the company billing you, they may be able to tell you how many seconds the call was made for. It's 20mins and 0 seconds, it's a sure bet it was computer generated by a spyware program over the internet. Get a spyware removal program (like Ad Aware and Spysweeper) and get those off your computer ASAP before it runs your phone bill up to $1000!!! But by all means, if you accessed the porn sites, own up to it and just pay the bill. Even if it's $300! You knew it would cost - it's your own dumb fault if you didn't check how much they charge per minute.
