My daughter and a friend, both single mothers with two kids each, are renting a house from these people.  When they moved in, they were told that the basement had had a mold problem but that it had been fixed.  My daughter has since discovered that the mold has returned and is growing rampant in the basement.  She and her roomate wrote a letter to the landlord asking for it to be fixed and he is ignoring their requests.  We are looking into legal options for getting out of the lease as it is unsafe for them to remain in this house.  My grandson has asthma and the mold has caused him respiratory problems.  The roommate's son has been taken to the ER twice with a severe allergic reaction to the mold.  These people need to be stopped!

I take back my apology

This man agreed to let my daughter out of the lease as of August 1.  We agreed to maintain the yard until then, even though she had moved out before the end of June.  We just found out last night that on 7/20/15, he filed a court case against her and her roommate for unlawful detainer -- which basically means they remained in the residence longer than permitted -- even though the rent was paid for another 10 days beyond that!  Then he had them served at the rental house, KNOWING that they were no longer there, so my daughter was really never notified of the court date, which was three days ago, and he received  a default judgment.  The only way my daughter can appeal this is to pay over $9,000, which is more than three times the judgment anyway.  Not only that, but my husband drove by the house the other night and found that now that my daughter and her friend are no longer there, NOW he is doing the repairs to the house that they had been requesting before any of this went down.

Must Apologize

I must apologize for my prior report.  We were at the house this morning and it turns out that what my daughter thought was mold in the basement is mostly just water damage -- rotting, water-damaged wood, but very little actual mold.  Now, that's not to say that the mold won't continue to grow if not repaired properly, but at least for now, it's not bad.  In any case, the Siddiqui's have agreed to release them from the lease.  Since my daughter did not give notice until the 11th of June, she will have to pay rent for July, but as of the end of July, she is free from the lease.  Not sure of the roommate's plans, but at least my daughter and her children are out of there.
