Verizon went ahead and sent a notice that they were raising the line surcharges by $0.40. They sent a discrete stuffer in the bill saying that you had 60 days to cancel your account w/o the early termination fee since they were effectively modifying the contract, breaching the original.

Since I am tired of Verizon's phones that other companies get 3 years earlier, and the quality of their service, the lack of bluetooth to squeeze extra $ on lame proprietary services, etc... I decided to take advantage.

Guess what, even though they say you can cancel w/o penalty, you can't. They merely say we won't charge you the $0.40 extra line charge, so they don't break their contract.

So what are they, liars. The reason they didn't say, if you don't want to pay it, we won't make you, is so tons of people didn't opt out of the fee. Instead, they made it an issue to were you cancel, or you can accept it, so everyone people unless they want out of their service accept it. The ones that want out of their service though, just get that waived.

STAY AWAY! They always have had the worst customer service of any carrier. The dishonestly and manipulation of their faithful customers says it all. I just sold off all of their weak stock that I owed also.

Go with Cingular. They are cheaper, have a bigger network, better support, better technology (GSM, bluetooth), and WAY WAY better phones. Verizon wouldn't even replace the phone I paid insurance on this whole time.

I switched to Cingular and it is great. If Cingular isn't your bag, then go with someone instead of Verizon. I am however still using the Verizon EVDO Internet for my laptop when traveling though. It tends to work great in major markets. For cell phone though, STAY AWAY!

If Verizon offered cancellation within 60-days due to the new 40 cent charge - they have to honor it

A view of various forums on the net will confirm that Verizon did honor the termination of the contract for thousands of customers and then came up with the 40 cent reimburesment "after" it realized they were loosing their customers. If they honored the 60-day termination for even one person - they have to honor it for all.

If they offered to waive the .40 administration fee for the remainder of the contract, then they are in no breach of contract, you trying to cancel outside of your legally binding contract before the early termination date IS a breach of contract. Why would it be ok for you to find a loop hole out but not them? And do you realize that the insurance is handled by a 3rd party vendor? A completely separate entity from verizon wireless. Any dissatisfaction should be taken up directly with the insurance company. SIDEBAR: it is the SAME insurance company for ALL cellular carriers!
