I called Verizon because my 2 year contract is over as of January 10th, 2008. I was informed that I would call them on that day to end my agreement. I told them that I am telling them now so they are notified in advance. I was told that I have to end the service on the 11th so that it will be just after the contract period. I asked if I could call on the 10th. I was told that I could except there would be a charge for ending my service 1 day before my contract was over. I thought "how much could this really be? It's only one day." She told me it would be $120.00. WOW...!! Can you believe that one?

So, I asked what would happen when I called on the 11th. I was told that service would be disconnected at the end of that billing cycle. Now I am confused. So I asked for clarity. She said that there is no "Disconnect on Demand." So I asked what I would be billed (if anything) for canceling my service the day after I fulfill my contract. I was told that I will be billed for an entire month of service. WOW...!! Based on my contract rate; that is an additional $79.99. I paid my contracted amount in full and now I do not want to continue. It should be over and no other charges should be levied against me.

The RIPOFF is that Verizon Wireless is stealing $80.00 from me without a legitimate reason. I fulfilled my end of the deal and it should be over as of the final day of the contract. Verizon Wireless is tacking on an additional $80.00 in a manner that I believe to be fraudulent.

I have had verizon cell phone service and land line service on and off since Verizon was formed by the merger of 3 telecoms. Verizon bills for service in ADVANCE of the service being provided, and bills after the fact for extras, such as over minutes, web access, text messaging, etc. When you call to cancel service, after about 4 business days, you will receive in the mail another, updated, bill which will reflect ONLY the services used. If you had paid for a full month in advance, they will send you a refund check. We just recently changed our cellphone service from my name to my wife because she gets a 20% discount with Verizon through her new job. I had received my normal bill on schedule, but then I received an updated bill that reflected only the charges up to the date of switching the service. Hope this puts you at ease.
