Was recommended to take my 1948 Chevy Coupe Streetrod to Vince(The Owner) of Vinrods Custom Fabrication in Las Vegas, Nevada by Corey who is a Partsman at Fairway Chevrolet in Las Vegas, NV! So I called and talked with Vince and told him the New Crate Motor in my 48 Chevy was not performing correctly (350/330 Horse Chevy Vortec, I told him how I had been ripped off for so many years by Shops and Mechanics who guaranteed they would do the work correctly, and that I had spent Thousands of Dollars on this car. Vinrods told me to bring the car in and he would get the Motor running correctly, so I took the car to him in Sept 2004, and asked him to install a Sirus Sattelite Radio with a CD Changer, had him take the VDO guages out and replace with Digital Guages, fix the windshield wipers,do some restyling on the Dash,Remote Start, replace the butted windshield with a one piece windshield (which the Shop broke Two One piece Windshild trying to install) finally a new butted windshild was installed.

I agreed to pay him $75.00 an hour for his work, and he promised me the work would be done in a timely amount of time. The first time I went to his Shop, it was very clean, then as the car sit and sit in the shop and outside with the Windshild removed, the door glass was rolled down, My car was Filthy inside and out, I asked him several times to put plastic over the car, which he never did, the Shop was Filthy, disorganized, and as time went on, I would ask Vince if the Car would be ready the next weekend for me to take home, and his answer was always Absolutly, Well after over $11,000 and over a year in his shop, I got the 48 Chevy home in Oct 2005, and it would not even run,I called him and called him, and he would not respond. His wife Cathy, pressed me to pay them in full, and that the work was guaranteed, so I payed them in Full, what a mistake that was even going to Vinrods in the First Place.

Work was terrible, not guaranteed as they said, the car was filthy dirty, and I got ripped off big time, I guess every one lives and learns, I would not recommend Vinrods to get a Vehicle worked on, Vinrods does not stand behind his work, and a person had better have a very Full Wallet as they will get every thing they can. I got the car running and drove it about 50 miles when it got T-Boned and totalled, My money was gone, the car lost in a Heartbeat, and guess what VINROD'S Shop in Las Vegas is closed, no current phone number,Website, or Fax Number available in Las Vegas! I heard other Car Owner's complaining about how they were getting ripped off also and the Shop would not stand by what they say! Have no ideal where VINROD'S is as of 12-15-06,I suspect he has moved back to California,or some where on the West Coast, and may be operating under another name, or is sitting in Jail somewhere!

BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!

Jennifer gave good advice, only give a shop one task at a time, because they are only as good as their last job and their last good employee. If they "need" payment up front, they are already insolvent and you don't want to deal with them. Your story is pretty common here in Hawaii too, because a lot of these cutomizers are only working to support their meth habit. The guys that are good today are in prison tomorrow.

you are posting these blogs saying horrible things about my dad he did eveything he could for you .. every week you brought him in something new that you wanted done and when your car left the shop it did run and you said you were satisfied ... the reason why we went through two windows is because the ones you were buying were cheap and did not fit right on the car . my dad isnt in jail and never in any way tried to rip you off . all the work that was don on your car was quality work and you approved of . my father went out of business because he tried to move into a new shop and the residents never moved out soo he lost alot of money and had to close .. we still live in the las vegas valley and like i said he never tried to rip[ any one off . and he never tried top hide his last name it was posted on hos business license and if you would have asked him he would have gladly told you

And they should be happy to share thier full name! It's thier reputation, and if they are proud of it they would have thier full name everywhere, business cars, walls, licenses, etc. because they want you to know who they are. They want you to tell others. You have to have a good relationship with your mechanic, as you know they can be your best friend, or just cost you thousands. No matter where you go, who is taking care of you? Not just your car, but you. Who is going to act in your best interest? If your mechanic recommends a repair, why? Is he just trying to make more money, or does he want to make sure that you wont be stuck on the side of the road? That's why it is important to know your mechanic, if he's good he cares about you and your concerns. Never ever let a mechanic keep your vehicle for that long. In this case you should have paid for and picked up your vehicle as soon as you had doubts. I'm sure they would insist that you pay for it all (in this case), even unfinished work (Even though they couldn't do it in a reasonable amount of time) just do it. Make sure you get a detailed reciept for ALL of the work they are charging for. Whether they finished it or not, if they charge for it, make sure it is clear on the reciept that you were charged! Then file a complaint. They did not do the work you paid for, and that would be easy to verify. Simply report that they would not release your vehicle until it was paid in full and that you did not want them to touch it anymore, detailing the reasons why you lost trust in them. If they wont give you a reciept, don't pay and file the report right now. Do not ever pay without a receipt. Let them hold on to the car if thats the case, but never leave without your reciept detailing what you were charged for! Mechanics aren't dumb, they know the rules. Any bad mechanic who rips people off also knows the laws, and knows how to protect himself. That means you need to know the laws also to protect yourself. Please learn the laws in your state, and use them to protect yourself. I know the laws in our state, and I am happy to educate any of our customers, we support the laws. If I know they will be traveling, I give them our cell phone number so they can reach us at all times incase they breakdown and end up in a repair shop. Find yourself a mechanic who cares about you, not just your car or money. Treat him like a friend and he will treat you the same. A little of this information is for you, as you have dealt with bad mechanics before, but also everyone who owns a car should be aware of thier rights. The lame advice you get about the BBB, ASE certified mechanics, etc does nothing to protect you. You have to know the laws and find a mechanic who follows them and cares about you. It doesn't matter if he is ase certified or a member of the BBB, does he care about the safety of you and your family? Does he take pride in his job?

Do you know Owner's last name?

I do not know the Owner of Vinrod's last name, I did hear once it was GOGOLO, although this may not be correct, as the Shop also installed Hydraulics on vehicles, The Owner Vince did not display his last name any where that I am aware of! The Shop also sold Tires and Custom Wheels. I did not initally want every thing to be installed on the 48 Chevy, His Wife did make the comment once to quit bring new things in to have installed. It just ended up being a NIGHTMARE for me, of course if I had refused to pay the bill, there would have been a Mechanic's Lien put on the car, I just wanted to (after so many problems and time he kept the car) get my car out of the Shop. Vinrods started out well working on the car, but it did not take long, to see that it was put on the backburner, and day's turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, believe me I visited the shop often, and Vinrods knew I was very upset as to why the car was sitting and not being worked on. You know at $75.00 an hour, how can any shop justify the amount of hours charged, was actual hours the car was worked on! I for one will never let it happen to me again, I DID LEARN MY LESSON!

for 11,000 dollars? And a year? Just a question, but if you have been burned by mechanics before, and barely knew anything about this guy why would you put so much trust into him? I mean, why not start with one or two simple jobs for someone to do first, then gauge thier abilities and honesty. I'm sorry, I know hindsights 20/20 but please in the future, don't ever put that much trust into ANYONE you hardly know! I'm sorry to hear about your car too that's just awful. Do you even know the guys last name? That might help others avoid him.
