Wal-Mart Sells Junk Futons - Avoid Their Furniture Department futon purchased, mattress apparently has no warranty, frame breaks, upon inspection, likely to break again, wal-mart won't issue refund Midlothian Virginia
Bought Wood side frame futon from Wal-Mart ~May 2008.
Limited use for the first 4 months, then as it was used more, heard the metal "frame" break in a few welds. In addition, the mattress became so worn it was preferable to sit in the floor. I procrastinated around the holiday season. Contacted Wal-Mart store on Midlothian, in Midlothian VA and they advised to use the warranty. Called corporate, they directed me to the store. OK, so I assumed the manufacturer would cover the product. The mftr did send replacement frame (same sad little welds that broke before). They DID NOT agree to replace the mattress, and referred me to an online seller of mattresses. Moral of the story is that you should never wait around too long to report this stuff. Now the futon sits in my garage basically junk. the mattress is junk, nothing more than a cheap knock off of something quality.
Keep in mind, all you see in the store is the cut away display. Oddly, the mattress appears nice and firm and not caved in like it is only half full. So, beware anything where you cannot really touch and feel the real product. Wal-Mart is pretty lousy in the last couple of years. This experience, combined with my views on their labor and vendor management practices will keep me forever from buying anything from Wal-Mart unless I have no choice.
