Wal-Mart Hit in jaw by four 10# bags of Tidy Cat Cat Litter falling from top shelf Orlando Florida
January 28, 2013, between 5:45 p.m. and 6:10 p.m., I was getting Tidy Cat cat litter from the top shelf at the Wal-Mart on Goldenrod Road and after putting the 6 bags in my buggy I was talking to my husband when approximately 4-6 more bags from the top shelf which were stacked approximately 6 high fell hitting me, the floor, my husband's wrist and in my shopping cart. I was hit on the left side of my face (jaw) with such force it knocked my head back which felt like I had been in a rear end car crash. I feel like I have whip-lash and it was with such force my middle and lower back was also hurt. I was stunned when I was hit, and didn't want to move. We proceeded to the checkout where I was still in shock and severe pain I just wanted to hurry and get out of the store. When I got to the car I called the number on my receipt and asked to speak to a manager, the person who answered wanted to know what jt was concerning so I proceeded to tell her briefly the issue and the Assistant Manager came to the phone whereas I informed him what had just happened and I was on my way home. He took my name, phone number and what happened over the phone and said he would enter the information into their system and if I felt I needed to go to the doctor to call him the next day as he would be there all day. When I got home I took 2 Aleve and laid down where my left side of my face, my neck and back continued to bother me until I finally fell asleep. I woke up in pain at approximately 1:15 and took 2 more Aleve. It hurts to turn my head to the right and left, when I stand up my middle and lower back hurts and I can't straighten up right away and the left side of my face is still sore. These were 10# bags of litter which fell and since they were stacked over my head 6 high and I'm 5'3" I was hit with a lot of force when they fell. I will be calling Wal-Mart today and going to the doctor to make sure my jaw isn't cracked. The cat litter fell so hard and so fast and was so unexpected, I didn't see the litter starting to fall and was so stunned when hit in the face I'm sure I was in shock for a minute, I leaned up against the shelf where I wanted to stand for a minute to get my balance and compose myself as I was almost in tears. There were 3 rows of litter and the row which fell was the left row and it wasn't touched and no litter was taken from that row. I have picturees of how the cat litter is stacked very high and is unsafe at the least, someone is going to get hurt worse than I did. Wal-Mart who first offered to pay for my medical, refused to return my phone calls and I've had no further contact from them. It has now been 3 1/2 months and my jaw continues to bother me quite a bit, my back and neck are much better.
