It appears that the the eye vision center in Walmarts stores is under contract with Walmart according to the Optometrist, Joyce Newton. Also, according to Joyce Newton, her husband manages the optical department. We made a total of 5 visits to this business, first to have eye exam and order and pay for glasses and eye exam, second to pick up new glasses (distant and readers).
My husband could not see with the new glasses for distance and told the asociate "Char" ( an older grey haired woman) and she instructed my husband to go home and just wear them and get used to them as they had a big change in prescription.
Next day, returned third time, to report that he could not see with these glasses at all and felt cross-eyed with them on. Had eyes rechecked and Optometrist stated she had made a mistake with the prescription and re-ordered.
Fourth visit, to pick up new glasses, still couldn't see with them and also complained to her that readers were weird and he couldn't get use to them. Again, "Char" told to go home and wear them and he would get use to them.
5th visit, returned and told "Char" that neither glasses were useable and wanted the distant glasses changed to just plastic lenses and not the Poly Carbonate that they had advised him to purchase and wanted the readers to be changed to the same prescription as his old readers.
She took all 3 glasses to a back room where the "manager" was and proceeded to spend 10 minutes cleaning her OWN glasses before returning to us. When I started to speak, "Char" very rudely told me she wasn't speaking to me and was only going to speak to my husband and I was to keep quiet. I was dismayed that any person in customer service would speak down to a customer like she did.
When she was finished talking down to my husband about what exactly he found was wrong with the glasses and started to walk away again.
I told her that we were tired of dealing with this issue and to just refund our money $307.60. She agreed to refund for the glasses only but not for the eye exam.
I spoke to the Optometrist and she told me that she had spent a lot of time with my husband and that either he told her the wrong things during the exam or the lab made a mistake. At any rate she would not refund anything even though she had given him the wrong prescription. I believe that an Optometrist needs to be responsible for giving the right prescription.
This organization is a Black mark against Walmart's reputation in the community and there's no way that Walmart would allow their salespeople in the store to act so rudely and unprofessional to the customers. They would be advised, by myself, to cancel the contract with this "outfit" and find a replacement that hires professional employees with customer service skills and an optometrist who knows how to give and eye exam.
My husband and I are both retired professionals and this type of behavior would never be tolerated in our line of business.
We contacted our credit card company and they are reversing the charges for the eye exam and said it was a good thing that we obtained copies of all 3 exams, proving that they were wrong. We have made an appointment with another Optometrist.
