This Company who has assumed the alias in New York Water Tight Home Improvements Roofing tried to take over 15k from my elderly mother. They canvassed her neighborhood pretending they are a local contractor and could help her on her Hail Damage claim. When I got to her home this evening I asked to see her contracts. Much to my dismay she signed a contract for over 15k when her insurance company only paid 9300. I went to their website www.watertightny.com and click on the hail damage tab I noticed at the top it said Tip Top Roofing Company. I put my mouse over it an low and behold it read tiptoptn.com so i went to this website. It was the exact same site only it didnt say Watertight Roofing it said Tip Top Roofing but all of the content was the same. even the same pictures. When i called the company their general Manager said they had an agreement with the owner of Water Tight of New York and were doing him a favor doing his "Storm Work" When I told him this was illegal, he stated I had no clue what i was talking about. I called the Office of Consumer Protection and they clearly stated this company was in violation. Ive called their office 3 more times with no responses and I want my mothers deposit of $5000 back immediately. These guys are storm chasers from Knoxville Tn and other places as found on the BBB. Magically every place they have an office a huge hailstorm has hit. They are scammers and trying to use a local contractors name so they can do crappy work and leave town.

My name is Jeanette and I have been working within the Long Island Roofing industry for close to 10 years.  I have worked with Mr. Mckay, owner of Water Tight in the past and have never had a bad experience with him.  He is honest, fair and runs an upstanding company.  His workmanship is excellent.    The roofing industry here on the island is a pretty close community in the sense that we all deal with the same supply houses, salesmen and mill reps.  Within the industry it is well known who is reputable and who is not.  Word spreads pretty quick either way.  I can tell you I have never heard a bad word spoken about Mike or his business from anyone.  I speak with consumers all day seeking roofing estimates and often hear ill dealings with other roofers.  I can honestly say Water Tight has never been included in any of those conversations.

It is unfortunate that false reports can be posted without proof but there are also many sites that show positive testimonials and all screen companies before allowing them to be associated with them such as Angie's List, Service Magic and GAF.

I'm afraid that the comments that you are making will not have any credence or hope of landing on Mr. McKay's Company.   It is so easy to point the finger, just remember that there are three fingers pointing back I have just hired Water Tight Home Improvements to re-shingle my whole house, and before I did I got several quotes.

Water Tight Home Improvements were recommended to me by a very reputable company and this company in order to complete there project sent engineers to my house to asses the viability of my roof.  And you guessed it I needed to have my roof replaced.  Mr. McKay's quote was not the cheapest, we negotiated and ended up with a quote that was tailored to the needs of the owner and the next project, which by the way is time sensitive.

No money down.... I was dumbfound who does this?  Shysters take the money and run. Before any work gets done you have to do your home work, BBB check and see who you are dealing with, ask questions investigate we have tools.  So really who is to blame?

Three fingers pointing back at you.....

I am a local insurance agent in Garden City. I came across this report while checking through several options for contractors to repair my home. I agree you should make sure you are dealing with a local contractor. I am in no means promoting Water Tight or even sure I will use them on my home as of yet, but by all accounts through my investigation it seems as if Water Tight is a local company.

Also, you stated above: "My mother and I are glad we found a real company to tell us the truth and were going with the nations biggest company Aspen! They tell the truth and dont steal money. They even decided to knock $5k off the job just to help us thru the pain youve caused."

A company CANNOT give you a $5,000 discount on an insurance claim. The only way they can give you a $5,000 discount is to take the 1st check (The Actual Cash Value, AVC) and give you a discount off that. Then not get the depreciation check. Depreciation is only recoverable if a contractor charges that amount.

For example.

If your job is estimated by the insurance to be a 17,000 job. They will give you a first check of 10,000 and withhold 6,000 with a 1,000 deductible never given to you. They will only release the remaining 6,000 if and only if they receive a final invoice for 17,000. If a legit company is giving a 5000 discount they are essentially only final invoicing for 12,000 and you will only get a 1000 check. BUT, they are in fact giving the insurance company a 5,000 discount not you!

OR
if you are implying they are giving you a 5,000 discount, they are committing insurance fraud by final invoicing the full 17,000 collecting the full depreciation and then letting you keep the 5,000. That means they are letting you pocket $5,000 from the insurance company, essentially giving them a faulty final invoice to collect depreciation. That is blatant insurance fraud, far worse then what you are accusing WaterTight of doing.

Last chance, Lenny.  These companies and things you mention have nothing to do with my company.  My name is Michael McKay, and I own Water Tight Home Improvements.  It has NOTHING to do with the company you are mentioning, or any Blue Rose company.  I'm sorry that someone with a similar company name allegedly took money from your mother, but it is not right to attack my company.  As I said, this is your last chance to rectify this situation.  If I am forced to pay for arbitration to have this removed, you will be held liable.

I am taking the time out to let you know how satisfied I am with Water Tight Home Improvement. After a hail storm came through during the summer I had no idea that I had damage to my roof. I called Water Tight to come out and look over everything. A nice young man came out to my house looked over the whole property, took pictures of everything that was damaged, and instructed me on how to file and insurance claim. I had the same insurance company for 25 years and had never filed a claim before in my life and had no idea how it worked. He walked me through the who process and even met with the insurance when they came out for an adjustment. He did all of this for free with no contract signed. Once the insurance company told me I had damage on my property he looked through the documentation they gave me and found out they had short me over $2000.00. He got the money that was owed to me and gave me many samples to look through for my house. In a timely manner he completed the roof (With an upgrade to a longer warranty), he repaired the siding on the back of my home, and changed out all the gutters and leaders on the house. He did all this with no money up front and did not take a payment till the whole job was complete. He really helped me with the insurance and basically handled the claim all by himself. All I had to do was call in the insurance company and pick out colors. I have recommended him to every person I can think of and he has now down 6 houses on my street all of which are very happy with the young man. I would recommend Water Tight Home Improvement to everyone who needs any project done and will continue to use them.

I find it very disturbing to listen to what one person has to write about this company. Nothing that was said by this person at all was done with me or any of my neighbors. The man from Water Tight was very respectful of me every time we talked and it was always in a professional manner.

I am taking the time out to write a comment on how satisfied I am with Water Tight Home Improvement. After a hail storm came through New Hyde Park, I had no idea that it left me with a damaged roof. I called into Water Tight to get it looked at. The gentleman came out to my house, took pictures of all the damage around my property, and instructed me on how to file an insurance claim. He then notified me that he would be willing to meet with my insurance company when they came to look at my home. He did all this for free and with no contract signed. After my insurance company gave me a document saying my roof was damaged he then looked over it and found out that they short me almost $2000.00 from what I was owed. He got the insurance company to agree to the additional payment to get me all the money I was deserved. He then reroofed my house( With an upgrade to a stronger shingle), fixed damaged siding that I had in the back and also changed out all the gutters and leaders. He asked for no money upfront and did not collect any money until the job was complete. Once all work was done and he came to collect the last payment I realized how easy he made the job on me. Outside of the initial call in and filing the claim all I had to do was pick out colors and the young man did the rest. I recommended him to every person I could think of. If you now look on my street he has done 6 other homes all of which left the homeowner completely happy and satisfied with the work. I would 100% recommend Water Tight Home Improvement and will use them on every project from here on out.

It Appears after searching further into the documents of this company they are associated with the firm Blue Rose Restoration. Our attorney has spoken with Nassau County and they confirmed 3 of the employees at Water Tight home Improvements also worked at Blue Rose Restoration. see this article. Not only did they flee TN but they had to leave chicago too because of these antics. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/10/14/2-investigators-authorities-cracking-down-on-hail-damage-fraud/

As for punctuation, why dont you learn how to treat your customers so your name wouldnt have to come up on here. Why arent more of your "satisfied" customers posting? You dont have any!!!!

Stay away from these scam artists! they will steal from you and leve you high and dry as they did in TN and in Chicago!

One of my family members had their roof done last year by Watertight and their roof never had an issue.

In the second week of August 2011 a representative of Watertight came out and inspected their roof for damage and found that they needed a new roof and gutters.  It was suggested to me that, since I only live a few houses down, they should inspect my roof as well.  As it turned out my roof, siding and gutters were all damaged from the storm.  Watertight explained the insurance process to me and guided me through the steps.

Frank Nally represented me during the insurance adjustment and handled the entire claim for me.  All I had to do was pick out colors, from multiple manufacturers, for my roof and new siding.

Throughout the process Frank was knowledgeable, courteous and never asked for money until the project was complete.

Watertight completed my project for what the insurance company provided and did some additional small items to make me happy.  My house looks brand new.

Frank asked me to share my experience with Watertight and to sum it up, I would recommend them to any one.

Lenny, I'm not going to continue to engage you over the internet.  I've asked you to please produce the $5,000 check you alleged that we stole.  Since you cannot do that, I think it is safe to say you are making up your story.  You seem to know an awful lot about the roofing business, so I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you are a contractor making up a story to harm us.  As you are familiar with our website, I'm certain you have our address.  I encourage you to come by any time you would like to discuss this matter.  I will not stoop to your level of name calling behind a computer.  I would also encourage you to consider correct punctuation and grammar when writing a fake report about someone.

I have used the same crews for years, and we do very good work.  I complete roofs for all of the largest general contractors in town, and have more references than you can count.  Every roof done by Water Tight Home Improvements is supervised by myself or one of my superintendents.

Lenny, if you spent as much time working on your own company as you have spreading lies about mine, you might have some work.

Ripoff report-I'm not sure what kind of website this is that allows someone to call names and attack people without any justification.

My mother will seek retribution and the attorney general as well as the federal trade commission have been informed about your deceptive sales techniques...If this isnt true then why do you have multiple companies with the same exact website...If im wrong, DID I CREATE THESE WEBSITES? You are the worst scum of the world and our community should be protected from gypsies like you. My mother said you finally got your sign out of our yard after the word got out about your little ruse of fooling people into thinking your local but yet your just a storm chasing thief! buyer be ware, check their ID , plates, the tops of your contracts to be sure they match the secretary of states website for them. My Experience with Water Tight Home Improvements

#13Consumer Comment

Water Tight Home Improvements recently completed my roofing and guttering that was damaged by the hail storm.  I had several leaks and, being a lifetime New Yorker, I had no idea that these leaks were caused by hail and would be covered under my homeowners insurance policy.

My rep with Water Tight was very professional and explained the entire process to me in detail.  He worked with my insurance company to come to an agreeable price, and all of the work was completed within a week.  Water Tight never asked me for a dime of the insurance money until they had completed the roof.

I found this report very disturbing and not reflective of the products and services that I received from Water Tight.  I will recommend them for years to come as a top notch construction company with exceptional customer service.

#14REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sun, November 13, 2011

I am the owner of Water Tight Home Improvements, and I have been roofing in Nassau county for over 18 years.  I have endured several instances like this because of a company called Water Tight Roofing that operates in a less than ethical way.  Please go to http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/OCA/Info/improvement.html to confirm.  I have never had a complaint and have an A+ rating with the BBB.  You can also check with all major suppliers as a reference to my business practices.  All my work is done by local crews that have been with me for years, and we have completed over 15,000 jobs.

It is a shame that someone can get on here and post whatever they would like without having to substantiate it.  My company does not take down payments.  I encourage the writer of the report to produce a copy of this "$5000 deposit" my company took.  I'm certain this will not happen, so I will take the report writer's silence to mean he or she admits their mistake.

If it pleases Rip Off Report (who apparently allows anything to be posted), I will also encourage many of my satisfied customers to post about my company.
