White House Motors Rick Smith Took my deposit on a vehicle, called off the sale ,probably sold it to someone else, then refused to return deposit. Portland, Oregon
In May, 2011 I dealt with Rick Smith of White House Motors over a 2006 Winnebago View. I authorized him in writing and verbally to take $1000 from my American Express Card as a deposit. They agreed that this was subject to my inspection of the vehicle and finalizing the deal. If I changed my mind when I inspected the vehicle, my $1000 would be returned to me without question. I booked a flight to fly to Portland two days later but before I could get there I got an email from Rick Smith saying they had changed their mind and "sorry it didn't work out". I replied, fine, where's my $1000 deposit. He assured me I had been issued a refund.
The refund never arrived and more phone calls and more lies made me realize I was dealing with thieves. I reported the matter to American Express Collections at which time I learned that the crooks had unlawfully taken $2000 from my card, instead of the $1000 I authorized in writing. American Express conducted an investigation and White House Motors refused to pay back the money. American Express reported that White House Motors refused to return the money. Don't deal with these crooks. They have no conscience.
