I was originaly contacted by WiFi PR Group through my bands email account. "Alisa St.Rock" stated that she had been turned on to my music by an intern who had shown her our Sonicbids EPK. She offered a bunch of different services that interested me, so I emailed her back. She replied and asked for my number. She called the next day. We talked at length about a PR plan and campaign. She was really pleasant, personable and professional. She emailed again with an extensive questionaire for me to fill out as well as an invoice through PayPal.
The invoice read as follows:
Enclosed is the invoice for the Indie Anthems and DIT PR Campaign. This includes one Indie Anthems press release- highlighting your track, with a minimum guarantee of 15 online media placements. The PR Campaign includes: a custom media list with a minimum of 500 journalist contacts, professional music review (approx 450-500 words) and email blast to the media list to promote your new album. Song placement (1 track) on the Indie Anthems digital mixtape NXNE 2015 (6/2015) is also included. Please remit payment upon receipt to confirm your Campaign.Thank you!
Amount Due $295 USD
After I sent the payment I recieved this email:
"Great, thanks! We will have the music review ready for you by end of next week. I will send it to you as soon as it's ready. Have a great weekend!"
And I never heard from her again after that. No services received.
Unfortunately I had my bank account linked to PayPal which does not offer any type of insurance for this kind of thing... My advice always use your credit card with PayPal since PayPal itself offers no insurance for anything bought without a tracking number.
