August 19, 2009

I received a letter in the mail with the letter head of Sun Life Financial; advising me that I had been announced the grand price winner in the "American family publishing sweepstakes drawing" organized for all energy and telephone subscribers over the years, both in the United States and Canada. There was a check for $4,997.00, that looked legit. As I began to read the letter; I was advised to contact my assigned claims agent Steve Baker, reading further I was told the enclosed check would be used to pay applicable Government Service Tax for non Canadian residents (GST), payable to my assigned tax agent by MONEYGRAM, Tax Agent Latoya Spence. My tax amount was $4,600.00. The last part of the letter read as follows: ("DO NOT ACT ON THIS LETTER UNTIL YOU SPEAK WITH YOUR CLAIMS AGENT STEVE BAKER who will advise you on how to claim your winnings"). The closing showed Frances. N. Ford (Promotions Manager). I never take anything as I see it; I found this to be a scam, I researched it on line and found that American family publishing is associating themselves with some legit businesses trying to deceive we the hard working honest people to get our money through this scam. Associated business names changed in my findings, and Steve's last name seemed to change, new tax agent and Frances name stays the same, but the scam remains to be the same old lie. Don't be fooled.
