World Wide Source mailed out business directories. These directories were useless, with business names only. No addresses or phone numbers. I promptly returned these.

I called the company to let them know I had returned the product they said because I did not use their shipping agent, I could not get credit for the return.

I do not have the product. Yet, they are still billing me and plan to turn the account over to a collection agency.

I have attempted to contact them on several occasions and have been met by an extreamly hostile staff. The issue remains unresolved.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, November 03, 2003

I am an ex WWS employee and though I could talk forever, I will make this as brief as possible. I do not have any doubt that this company is a complete scam. When I began working there, they told us as trainees that the numbers we would be calling were people who already had a listing in this "index" and that our job was to convince them to renew their listing. After a couple of weeks working there and hearing several different people tell you they did not list their business in this directory four years prior to my "renewal" call because their companies have been closed since the 80's started to make me wonder. I asked one of the team leaders what this was about and he confessed to me that there was a small percentage of listings that were "cold calls" but there were so few that they couldn't determine which ones were. That was my first sign. After a few more months and growing more suspicious, myself and a few people I worked with there decided to ask if we could see this Business Index, and we were told no because they did not want us to get the numbers out of it of companies whom we'd personally listed because they thought it was wrong for us to interupt people at work so we weren't allowed to do any courtesy calls. Eventually, with so many employees growing suspicious, they brought in a book which one of the management held up in front of everyone and quickly flipped through and then the book was later stored in the entrance to the office under a locked peice of glass, with the book closed. Finally, I personally made a call to a gentleman in the states who was very angry with me and told me I worked for a scam. I was told by my supervisor to give this man the number of the better business bureau as he'd requested. I planned on calling the man back, but the supervisor took the card from my hand and wouldn't let me call him back. He actually ripped the card into bits. If WWS is legit, why couldn't I call back? Why were we never allowed to call people and ask how they like the index? And why didn't we ever see this book? Obviously, this company is a scam and when myself or co-workers approached them about this, they threatened to fire us if we didn't stop questioning them. To that, we all just quit. That was proof enough for me the way our questions were handled as to what kind of company we were working for. Even after leaving, it's still affecting my resume. They are telling future employers that they threw out past employee records since they've changed their name. I would like to say sorry to anyone who I contacted in my time employed there, and that I never dialed another number as soon as I learned the fact that the company was indeed a scam. Oh, and Mark, good luck with the company. We can tell by your name calling just how mature you are. Maybe instead of spending time looking up insults on the internet, you'll use your brain for better things like realizing the company you work for is complete BS.

#3Consumer Suggestion

You're not required to pay for anything you didn't order. (Many people either just pay invoices without thinking twice, or think that they have to pay an invoice even if they didn't order the goods/services; it's what they count on when preying on unsuspecting & trusting folks. You're a step ahead of the game since you didn't pay up). In many states you are under no obligation to return unordered merchandise. It becomes a "gift"--"thanks a lot for the gift of a totally useless directory!" You should write directly to this guy, Pavlos Angelatos, who owns all these companies, and state that he has thirty days to produce a WRITTEN contract and that if he can't then he is not to contact you by telephone, fax, electronic mail, U.S. mail, courier or in person! (Spell it out this specifically so that you can protect yourself from further HARASSMENT). Let him know you are going to the Attorney Generals of your own state AND New York State. Also tell him you are reporting them for MAIL FRAUD (get the form at your Post Office). Here is the address of the "Mother Ship"--the rest are just a ruse so you can't find them: Pavlos Angelatos, President W.W.S. Source Mondiale de Publications, Inc. 2015 Drummond Avenue, Suite #800 Montreal, Quebec H3G 1W7 Canada Now follow through and report them. Vermont was able to obtain a handsome settlement for people who had been scammed by this company. Other states are moving on this too. Michelle in Florida faxed everything to him at 800-303-1489 every time someone called her from this horrible company. She made Pavlos Angelatos go through a few reams of paper but eventually they stopped calling and she got a credit. By the way, the "collection agency" is just another department of this operation.
