Very often Xlibris Corporation, a self-publishing company, has been very slow at answering my questions and working with me in general, before and after I paid them.

In response to my requests for data on sales of my book, I was emailed a total sales figure, obviously too low to be accurate. I am not being sent quarterly royalty checks- I'm in my third quarter with Xlibris and have received only one check for $26. This company should be investigated.

Personally I like Xlibris and have had great experiences with them.  I am a minister and would not recommend a dishonest company.  As with any company I believe it is easy to have an oversight.  However in this instance (without much facts) it is possible that the authors book just hasn't sold.

Many authors expect they publish their book and then get rich.  They forget about the doing work, getting good advertisements, getting media recognition etc.  Quite often publishers with POD services such as Xlibris are not aware of the work they must do to bring their book into the light of the reader.

I would recommend going to amazon or barnes and nobel and seeing how many used books and reviews of that title there are available.  If there are tons of used books and reviews then it is obvious that there are royalties that need to be paid.  I have a feeling in this case that you would not find many reviews or used books, if any.

Also keep in mind traditional publishers take a loss on 95% of the books they publish.  All the money is made of of only 5%.  There is no difference in POD.  The majority of authors sell fewer than 200 books.  This may be one of the 95%.

I hope this has shed some light on the subject.  I have done much research and understand the industry quite completely.  I also have person experience with Xlibris as they have been doing a wonderful job in dealing with my first book.
