Peter, Yahoo is not ripping you off or defrauding you in any way. Someone else is! I've also received the same types of notices from 'Yahoo', Ebay, Chase Bank and many other companies. They tell me to log-in to my account and verify my information for security reasons. Some of these companies I've never even heard of, but yet I have an account with them?! Don't think so. I had talked to one of the companies and they said they don't send out those kind of e-mails. So Please, Don't Do It!! It's called phishing or pharming. Scammmers are using(very legitimate looking) copy sites and e-mailing these kinds of notices, hoping to get someone that has an account with that particular company, to send their information. It's not always phishing for information though. Sometimes it's a zombie/dummy computer trying to attach itself to your system. I had that happen once. Or it can be a random virus or worm. Yahoo has a virus scan in place. That's why you saw the pink box with the virus notice. However, Yahoo can't catch everything. If it looks suspicious, delete it. Next time you get an actual letter in e-mail, check the spelling. That can be a dead giveaway. You would have to do something pretty serious for Yahoo to cancel your service, not just normal usage. If you still have these e-mails or receive them in the future, send a copy to: [email protected] Hopefully, it will help Yahoo stop this nonsense. Good Luck!

delete them and forget about them.
if you know how to read headers, you'd see that they weren't from yahoo

Those e-mails not from Yahoo Administration, but much more look like phising attempts. It is very easy to fake senders. (See for example wikipedia for explanation of phising.)
The most important: do NOT give out your password, account numbers, etc.
Nevertheless I agree, yahoo costumer service is hard to reach.

I do several Internet Investigations on a regular basis. I can't see your email messages so I can't be 100% positive, but I am fairly certain that the messages you are receiving are not really from Yahoo (especially if they contain an attachment.) It sounds like someone or something is either attempting to send you a virus, trojan, etc. I highly doubt this is from Yahoo. The address is most likely spoofed.
