We are working directly with American Express to payoff our debt via an ACH monthly program. We are not late, we have been with AMEX for years and the amount due is high but we are a retail store.
Received a very "official" looking document from Zwicker & Associates Attorneys At Law stating that they had been retained by American Express. I called American Express. They did not forward our account over to any attorneys, we are in good standing.
I called Zwicker & Associates, got a very agressive sales person who confirmed the letter's information. I was told that our account was assigned to them on 6/28/2013. If we did not pay this debt, a judgement would be placed against us. (well, of course it would!) When I asked how late my payments were, he said the entire debt was due. (Well of course it is!)
This is a classic example of an agency, doing business in a fraudulent way, to use verbage to scare people or small businesses into giving up checking or credit account information. They state actual law but my debt to Amex is not in any jeopardy, we were not assigned to this agency, they simply obtained credit information and then using offical looking documents with strong language, tried to force us to pay them directly. BEWARE of this scam!

Zwicker will not report your payments on your credit report if you pay them. It's best to shut them down with a do-not-contact letter and deal with the original creditor directly. If Zwicker sues you, it's pretty easy to beat them (with the right info.). There is some good info. on this site from complaints vs. Zwicker from other consumers:

You may want to have a look at some of the links posted by other consumers in those complaints for more info. vs. Zwicker and for people that can help you fight them if you need it. Also has links on how to complain about Zwicker as a "law firm". Good luck.
