Complaint Review: Sevier & co - Colorado Springs CO

We leave this review with a heavy heart and extreme dissatisfaction. We hired Dave Sevier back in October 3rd 2018 to do our kitchen cabinets, on that day he was given a check for $5,000 for materials for the kitchen project. The project was supposed to be completed by November 20th, 2018.

The set deadline was not met by him as he decided to start working on the kitchen on November 14, 2018, and worked until November 20th on and off as he didn’t show up every day as he had told us he was going to do. He also worked Nov 25, 26, 27 and 28 for just a few hours each day. Despite the fact that he didn’t met the original deadline and he had already failed on his word several time, we graciously extended the deadline to the agreed date of December 22nd, 2018.

We decided to extend because we knew that he was having problems figuring out how to do the kitchen as it was his 1st time doing such project, for that reason adjustments to the design had to be done and we were happy to do that 1st extension for him. That second deadline was not met by Dave Sevier either, during the month of December he only worked for 8 days in total and not full time as he would arrive late morning and leave early afternoon.

My husband and I decided to make another concession and we extended the deadline to the agreed date of January 18th, 2019. On this deadline he not only didn’t met, but you also decided to disappear yet again without letting us know. So, after he left for his Christmas vacation he came back that on January 4th 2019 and worked 4 days, then knowing he had a deadline of January 18th, 2019 he disappeared for 2 weeks without saying anything. When he came back in January 24th 2019, he worked for 4 hours and left he also came on the 26 and worked a few hours and left. 

The last time we saw him and had our last face to face conversation was on January 31st when he came over and worked a few hours then he asked for more money to buy materials and pay his rent. When I told him that I wasn’t sure if we were comfortable giving him more money before the project was fully done, but that I was going to discuss it with my husband to see what he thinks; he said and I quote “If I can’t get more money then there is nothing holding me here as I have to work to pay my bills”.

He also stated that he did not wanted to do the ceiling repair which was supposed to be done by him at the beginning of December 2018 and that since there was no written contract that he thought we should take care of it and not him. This was extremely unprofessional from his part because even though we do not have a written contract (as he failed to provide one as promised in October 3rd, 2018) we do have a verbal contract and our extensive messages via Facebook reflect such verbal contract.

After that conversation took place, I was left with such unease in my heart but left it at that and sat down to talk to my husband about the situation. We decided to ask him regarding the $5,000 deposit he was given for materials, we wanted to know what did he do with our money as we started calculating given the materials we had here and he not not spent more $1,000 on this kitchen and I know the majority of the materials he got them for free as he told me himself and many other we purchased our self.

We actually asked a couple times over messages to send us a detailed invoice to where and how the money was spent what materials were purchased and so on. He never disclosed that information and we have not heard from him ever since then, leaving us with extreme distrust and uneasy with his lack of honesty. 

During the time we had Dave work here, he disappeared so many time for days and weeks at a time without even letting us know that its unreal. He also spent ridicules amounts of times texting and chatting on his phone. My husband and I communicated many times verbally of our concerns and dislike regarding his performance, work quality, and the lack of care on the timelines set by us and his inability to make our design come to life as expected and promised by him.

Despite the all conversations we had with him, the help and support we have tried to provide, the numerous opportunities he was given to fix the areas of concern, and finish this kitchen on a reasonable time manner, he did nothing to improve on his performance nor finish the job he was paid for. Because of him we incurred on extremely high gas bills because he refused to fix the ceiling hole, we had to pay for 3 months in a row well over $600 a month on gas bills.

We also paid well over $450 in electric bill for the month on November, December and over $300 for the part of January when our electric bill is never over $180 a month. He never informed us that he was going to be building on our house, on October 3rd 2018 he said he was going to build everything at his location and bring the cabinets to mount them here and that was not the case but we didn’t complaint about the electric bill, just the gas bill as we had asked so many times to please cover the hole because the house was extremely cold and it was painful for my husband that has deployment injuries from when he was in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He never addresses any of our concerns and kept building and not listening to our needs. He also caused damages to our new floors and our new range top and never repaired them or paid for them even though he was asked to please cover things and I even suggested to take the range top out of the counter top so he could work without worrying about causing damages, but did nothing about it. Dave never took responsibility for his actions and all he did was make excuses and blame us for the delays and issues with the kitchen, even though we tried to help as much as we could and I was always available for him to work on my home.

We have consulted with several contractors and sadly the entire project needs to be redone as Dave did a horrible job and the little bit of kitchen he did is literally falling apart and it’s not functional at all. We requested a refund from Dave Sevier as we need that money to be able to have this kitchen done and Dave has ignored us completely. 

All I have to say to you Dave is: You know you left us without a kitchen and without the money, and this is not correct. We trusted you with our life savings and you took our money and never finished the job, this is not proper from a person that calls himself christian, honest and kind. You made promises you did not keep and didn’t even try to make it right.

We trusted you with closed eyes, we did not hesitated on hiring you given you said you were an honest person and had great reviews on your page. You got frustrated with me so many times even though I couldn’t understand why you were frustrated because I said I don’t like that, it’s not my fault that you were building like crazy making things without even asking if we liked or approve of the work.

It’s hard to like something when you never turned in a proper design and samples as promised and as requested numerous times. You didn’t start until a late date even though you knew you had no experience with kitchen and we were happy to give you the project as you wanted something different on your portfolio. You arrived nearly every time unprepared with little or no materials to work with and then had to constantly go out to get stuff.

You know you disappeared so many times without letting us know and I stood by you and tried to work with you. I helped you stain, paint and clean so you could concentrate on building. What you are doing is not right and you know it, you left us without a kitchen and without money to get the kitchen done. You broke the trust we placed in you. So we ask you to please refund our $5,000 so we can finally move on and be able to have our kitchen done properly.
