8 X 8 Packet 8 Packet 8 my money ripoff Santa Clara California
Signed up with Packet 8 told I would be charged $213.00 for a full year and I recieved my gizmo on the 23rd of July 2007. Hooked it up and all was just fine at first. Within 2 days, I would try to make a call. I would get a dial tone but the calls would not go through.
I had a bunch of people stop over to my house saying that they couldn't get through my number, they heard a recording something to the fact that I disconnected my box from the interenet.
At First I didnt believe them I thought they dialed the wrong number so I used a friends cell phone and dialed from my living room , guess what I heard the same disconnected service recording. So I decieded to call customer service.
When I called customer service I found out that they didnt have 24 hour tech support. so because it was around 6pm central time on wednesday I had to call the next business day. so I call on thursday and I get put on hold. I was on hold for more than a half an hour, then a prerecorded message comes on the line telling me they are recieving higher than usual call volume and to please try my call again later goodbye. then they hung up on me.
I couldnt believe it! I cant get to tech support. so my phone is not working and no support. I called again on friday and same thing happens again. SO i try one final call this time I get a hold of a representative at their non techical support extension. and I told the lady that I wish to cancel my account effective immediately, Although she was very polite on the phone, I closed my account she told me to mail the equipement back to them which I did the same day, priority mail with delivery confirmation. the Lady told me my account would not be charged as it has yet to appeared on my bill, so I am thinking all is good.
Well today my credit card was charged $214.20 its $1.20 more than what they told me on the phone. As I am writting this I have been on hold with Packet 8 for for 42 minutes waiting to speak to a representative about the credit card charge. well thats about all I have at this time. I hope I dont get caught in a trap like it appears a few other people have. I'll keep everyone posted. be careful
