A-1 American Services - Mr. Morton H. Saviell - Samantha Uglyheart - Loyd Brown Did not obtain Estimate Approval before repair and EXORBATANTLY charged my card. Chesapeake Virginia
Mr. Lyod Brown was assigned to a repair call for a leak in a crawl space of house I rented out because the market is too bad to sell. He called me and stated it was a $78.00 service charge for the estimate but that it would be applied to the bill if he did the work. He did not contact me with the estimate, instead he did the repair, which took about 35 minutes and then, according to the tennets in the house there, he spent the next several hours looking for his phone, talking on the house phone, and sitting in his car. I am active duty Navy and was at work but at no time did he call and even give me a verbal estimate and I understand now he should have had me sign a contract in writing. Nothing was ever mentioned about that though.
When I did finally get ahold of him on the tennents phone he said he had lost his phone and the total was $1200.00. I was quite upset and said I Never in a million years would have approved an estimate for $1200. He called his office and then called me back and said because he did not give me the estimate first he was authorised to take $300.00 off. I said I still would never have approved an estimate for even half that as I had another plumber lined up to get a second estimate for free that day. The other plumber did show up later that day and looked at the work Mr. Brown did and said he would have charged $130.00, one 8 inch section of copper was replaced and several joints were resweated.
I called the Office and talked to Samantha the Office manager and explained I did not even have but $400.00 left on my card. She took that as approval to charge me $400.00 and said I could work out the remainder of the bill with Mr. Brown. I called her again on Monday to make SURE she understood what happened, that I HAD NOT approved an estimate and that I was willing to pay $130.00 for the unauthorized repair even though I did not recieve or approve of any estimate. She said she had me agreeing on tape to the $400.00 and that she would "eat" the reat of the bill.
The $400.00 has been taken out of my account. I told her that if she wanted to keep the charge at $400.00 then I would have to notify the public as best as I could about the unethical and deceptive practice'e of A-1. Consider that I have JUST STARTED this campain and I will not rest EVERY DAY until I have done something to get the word out about your corrupt business practices and exhorbatant "FLAT Rate" pricing. (Day 1 I did BBB, this is only day 2!) Yea Rip Off report! Thank you as I truly hope I can save someone else the pain I am experiencing.
