A Better Choice Movers What a bunch of SCAM ARTISTS, DO NOT EVER USE THESE MOVERS ripoff Fairfield New Jersey
These guys were the biggest bunch of scam artists. I called them about my move from a one bedroom apt. to a townhouse about 5 miles away. They gave me a quote of $74 per hour with a minimum of 3 hrs + 1 hr of travel. That brought my total to $296 plus whatever extra time it took them. The gentlemen I was dealing with (Matt) explained that with the furniture I had it wouldn't take more than 6 hrs for the whole move.
They arrived at my place did a once over and began loading the truck. About 3/4 of the way through the loading of the truck, the foreman came over and showed my the contract. He began rattling off all of these extra charges that were NOT explained nor previously mentioned to me.
- $250 for boxes for my 27" and 32 " regular TV's (No Plasma)
- $150 for boxes for my bedroom mirror (Which they broke by the way)
- $150 fee because they had trouble getting my couch through the door
- $150 long haul fee for the flight of stairs they had to climb.
- $4 per blanket (They used about 20)
- $100 for tape and bubble wrap
I explained to the foreman that none of these extra charges were explained to me and thought that he was ripping me off. He stated that I didn't have to pay these fees, but that he would be keeping all the stuff already packed, plus storage fees. At this point what can you do. They have you between a rock and a hard place.
In the end, the total came out to be with tax over $1500 instead of the $500-$600 I was anticipating from the quote they gave me. The kicker was that the foreman told me that it is customary to tip the movers 20%. What nerve of these guys. I told him to go scratch and gave them $20 each.
I only used these guys because they had the most competitive rate of the 5 other moving companies I had called. Don't be fooled by the cheaper hourly rate, they nickle and dime you for every little thing.
Be smart and don't use A BETTER CHOICE MOVING COMPANY! Not unless you like being ripped off.
