I was in an accident on 10-15-2008. My car was towed by the State of GA (Augusta) to the A C Proctor's Paint and Body Shop. I DID NOT tell the city to tow my car to that shop, I asked to tow it to Ricks Paint and Body, but that's another story all together.

Once I got to the A C Proctor's shop, the lady at the front desk was polite to everyone in there BUT me. I don't know why, maybe because my skin was darker then everyone in there, but she was really rude. I asked if I can see my car so she let some guy walk me back there to see it. They wouldn't let me touch ANYTHING, not even my kid's car seats and said I would have to pay $120 for the tow that day plus a $20 storage fee.

A lady came in before I did I overheard her talking with her and she was advise to only pay $70 dollars, why I have no clue. I called back a few times after that a few day's later because I was getting NOWHERE with this lady. She told me that I was not going to be able to take anything out of the car and that if I had any problems with that I would need to talk to the owner.

Today 11-19-2008 I came back to take pics. of my car. They told me that the car was not in my name (when I have the bill of sale), and that I was not going to be able to take a pic. of my car. The same lady that was there before was the same one that was being highly rude and disrespectful the last time I came into the office, that is with me anyway, with the other customer's she should much more respect!

The lady started getting loud with me so I got loud with her back, and that's when the owner came from the back. He started just yelling to the very TOP of his voice with me as if I was his child or something telling me that there's nothing that they can do ( along with a few other things). Of course I had my child with me, so I was defiantly NOT going to let this idiot speak to me as if I'm just this NOBODY that walked into his store. I told them that I will get a lawyer behind all of this and I took of pic of him ( which he posed for in an vindictive way) and he told me to leave, so that's what I proceeded to do. I guess he thought about he may have a discrimination law-suit on his hand so he told me that he would go back to take the pic of my crushed car.

I felt my pressure rise all the time of being in that store, and it was by NO MEANS i should've been treated that way neither times. I really don't know what the problem is around here in the Augusta GA area, but you do have a lot of people who try to treat you like a child even though I'm close to 30 years old, how can I resolve this problem that I'm running into with these towing people?

i have dealt with several body shops in augusta ga that are used by richmond county for towing and your account doesn't sound right. if you wanted ricks paint and body to tow your car from an accident the deputy is obligated to call them for you. if your chosen service can't be reached, if you don't make a choice when asked , or if you change your mind after stating no preference, that is on you. not the shop that the deputy called for you. as far as being let to the car, it is my understanding that you must show proof of ownership (title, etc.) to richmond county sheriff department and get the mandatory claim check,(that they must give to you if your paperwork is any good) to pick up your vehicle. with that ticket rick's paint and body will pick up the car for you. without it the shop that has the car you wrecked is not supposed to let you near the car. that is via the contract that the body shops have with richmond county to protect the true owner of the car's property. it sounds like they were being nice letting go to the car the first time. as far as the price of the tow, it is set by the sheriffs office , and they would make the body shop comply if you are not being charged the right price. if the county would not help you in this situation and the body shop would not help you, it sounds like the problem may have been at your end? maybe? do you think? i don't know if you are racist or not but, i know that when i act like an idiot in a place of business, i get treated like an idiot too, and whether i'm darker than those around me or not it doesn't seem to matter. ignorance is a universal color. lastly , i know people that know mr proctor , and i am told that he is a fair man , and that his shop has been open a long time . your story doesn't seem to be in line with peoples experiences i've heard about, or my own in augusta, which makes me wonder where the problem truly lies. bless your heart lady.
