The company took my head shots (I payed for them $60) in March 2007.

After a week I was invited for evaluation, when I was told I was chosen by the board of directors out of 200 participants. Ann, the director, pressurized me into signing a contract which, she claimed, granted me work on wekends payed $200/hour. She said they had a one-day promotion $895 for a year contract instead of $1395. She looked very competent and showed much dignity which made me believe such a nonsence.

Ann gave me a whole list of services provided to me by the company and assured the investment is going to pay off the very first weekend. She claimed West Coast Casting company is after me for Macy's commercials. The only way to get the job is through them, A New Concept. Finally, under pressure, I signed the contract without reading all it says in a small fonts.

Just after a week at the orientation meeting the company strongly advised finding a stable job, since no emplyment or job assignment is going to happen in a near future. Then I found out all the contract says in small fonts: "...no job assignment...", "...no carrer...", "...no employment...".

When I demanded money refund, Ann said their refund policy is 24 hours before the orientation. Obviously, only at the orientation one finds out he was ripped off. When I insisted, she offered me writing a certified letter to the company's manager, Andrea Avila. I sent a letter and it was recieved by the company on April 2, 2007. Till now (two months later) I did not recieve a reply. They did not return phone calls and obviously no job assignment happened.

After my husband showed up at the company to get some answers they threatened him with restraint order for harassment. Me and him got phone calls from Lisa, threatening to call police the next time it happens.

Really sick company and really sick people...

Take her to small claims. You'll win, she's been there before.

Yeah, that does suck to get played like that for your money. I hope theres a way to get it back. But i know four people who used to work at A New Concept. They have quit long ago, and even told me that it was a scam, which was why they quit. The boss or owner of A New Concept is a female and her boyfriend who is I hear, a criminal. I hear they use people's information stealing their identities. One day they even came to my school insisting people to sign up for a free photoshoot. They are scams and stealing people's money. A New Concept should get shut down!!

Response to Sick and Frightening Behavior of Shiry's Husband

#4UPDATE Employee

Sat, May 26, 2007

In regard to Shiry's posting and her husband Steve's posting (Report 249419), all clients who sign a contract at A New Concept are given three days to cancel if they send a certified letter to our company. We received a letter from Shiry that was dated more then a week after her three day right of recission. The Administrator called Shiry and explained that she was out of her cancellation period. A few weeks later, her husband Steve pushed his way through our front entrance door at approximately 8:40 p.m. The office was closed, front lights were out, but a few employees were doing their paperwork. He told everyone he had an appointment with the Administrator and was not leaving. After two employees told him we were closed, he refused to leave. They had no choice but to call security at the building. Steve began threatening and frightening employees and was asked to leave again. He finally left, but showed up a few days later with flyers that contained false accusations about our company. He taped them to the walls and elevators. The Director called him after that incident and told him that she would have to get a restraining order against him because he was on private property. He is continuining to harass our staff, clients and place flyers on the property. Raina Office Manager A New Concept Modeling & Acting Centre' San Diego, CA
