It was a hot summer day when we moved. Within an hour of the movers arriving, they started asking for drinks. I was asked to give 12 men drinks (not water) all day long. After I left to drive the car to our destination, the movers raided the liquor that I left in the house and had some of their own as they left the empty bottles on the grass. They also opened canned food from my basement and left the cans on the grass. The whole yard was littered with cigarette butts.

I was told that I could leave light items in the dresser drawers and anything fragile would be wrapped on the day of the move. The movers did not mention it would cost an extra $956.00. I asked if I could leave light items in the drawers. Sure, no problem was the response. They decided to empty every drawer and charge me for boxes and all of the boxes were unlabelled. In addition, these boxes took up valuable room in the moving truck. I asked them to shrink wrap a special mattress so the enclosure around the mattress wouldn't rip. They disregarded this request and it was completely ripped at the place of arrival.

There was damage done to the house we left (gouges in oak steps, in the ceiling, scratched hardwood floors, sliding door frame, etc. and debris was strewn all over property in and out). They left some of my furniture on the front lawn and also in the house. They left the legs to the kitchen table in the garage.

I was pressured by the foreman to tip these 12 men and was also told I owed more money so I had to go to the bank or they wouldn't leave the driveway.

We had full coin jars and tools stolen. The majority of our furniture was damaged so badly that it can no longer be used. The ceiling fan was thrown in a box without any packing materials and was completely busted. China was broken, computer desk broken in half, television casing broken, hardware for china cabinet was lost to name a few. There was a 5 foot round glass table top (that was not ours) left in the livingroom.

A traumatic scene: The day laborers were bringing an armoire up the stairs. It slipped and fell down the stairs, gouging the wall, taking out the molding and smashing into the front door which broke. I called the moving company about all of the damage and was told to call my homeowner's insurance company. A Security movers did not take responsibility for the damage they caused.

When they arrived to unload the truck, the two guys hung out in the truck and they hired day laborers to unload the truck. They loaded the boxes into the garage from floor to ceiling (despite the fact they were all labelled by room). The movers refused to reassemble any disassembled furniture claiming they did not have any tools. When provided with tools, they did a half-hearted job. I flipped and kept calling the owner, Gregory until he agreed to get his workers working. They tried scamming more money because they could not park the moving van in the driveway ($150.00) and the mover said I owed $400.00 more and I signed a contract about it. I asked to see the contract but he could not produce it. I refused to pay another dime.

At 5:00, the day laborers said they were leaving and would come back tomorrow (if I paid them). They left at least 50 boxes outside my garage. I had to carry them inside myself while I supervised my young children.

The moving van left, leaving everything in moving blankets. I had to unpack furniture myself and dispose of 25 moving blankets.

The movers never made an inventory list. I never received a freight bill and the contract does not list the DOT number on it. I did not receive a copy of the arbitration policy as I requested. I filled out all of the necessary paperwork from the company for all of the damage and I received a letter stating my claim was denied.

If you read the website, they make so many wonderful promises...and are simply liars, cheats and thieves. The experience was the total opposite of what they said they would do. We thought it would be great to use a smaller company to give them business. Huge mistake!!

Just think...they scammed us for $9,000!

Now Called Capital Van Lines

Be advised that this company is now called Capital Van Lines of Bayonne, NJ.  The same scam artists are involved....Alex, Greg, and the superstar estimator, Michael C.  It is no surprise that they have changed the company name several times in the past.  Capital Van Lines has a BBB rating of "F" so I can only assume the name will soon change again.  Be wary.

This case was taken to a Better Business Bureau arbitration.

The subject matter of the binding arbitration were damages to real and personal property of the complainant that occurred during this move.  The mover exhibited a complete disregard for the personal and real property of my brother and his wife.  The Better Business Bureau arbitrator awarded my brother and his wife an amount equal to $11,606.00 for said damages in an arbitration award that was rendered on February 4, 2009.  To date, this award has not been paid by Security Moving.  As a result of their failure to abide by this arbitration decision, the Better Business Bureau revoked Security Moving's accreditation on February 24, 2009 (see http://www.bbb.org/new-jersey/business-reviews/movers/a-security-moving-and-storage-in-bayonne-nj-28000337).

This mover has engaged in behavior that violates applicable federal regulations, including a continuing violation of 49 CFR 375.211, due to its failure to abide by a binding arbitration award issued by the BBB arbitrator. Unfortunately, however, this conduct does not seem to be limited to my brothers experience with their personnel. This egregious actions of this rogue mover, despite having only one licensed moving truck, have resulted in a litany of complaints and fraud allegations as noted in the FMCSAs own complaint database, the Better Business Bureaus complaint report (http://www.bbb.org/new-jersey/business-reviews/movers/a-security-moving-and-storage-in-bayonne-nj-28000337) and in online forums such as the www.ripoffreport.com (see http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/security-moving.aspx).

Despite all of the damaging information that it out there regarding this outfit, from all accounts they continue to operate and provide customers with shoddy service. Most recently, they have started operating under a registered trade (or d/b/a name) of United Group Moving and Storage, Inc., including a website located at http://www.unitedgroupmovingandstorage.com, which, other than the name adorning the pages, is a carbon copy of their now-defunct http://www.securitymoving.com website.

Do not use their services.
