This was the worst company I have ever dealt with. I started off with Nicole in customer service. She and I did a new estimate on the phone together and I was told that they took American Express but Charge an extra 10%. I said that I would have to check with my brother (he was paying for my move) and that I might get another card. American Express called my brother to let him know that they did a pre authorization. She told me that all services were included in my price including the few things that they would pack up for me.

I didn't have much furniture. Mostly boxes and it took 6 hours for them to load the truck. The driver (George) made the other guy ( Jose) do everything while he talked on his cell phone to his friends or just stood around and barked orders at Jose. I had to chase him down to get my contract. My insurance was picked out for me (.60 per pound PER item) I told him that I wanted more insurance and he said no I should of asked for that from Nicole.

I then asked to talk to someone at his office and he said there was no one which was a lie. I saw Jose drop my boxes of fragile lamps and two of my guitars off the ramp. When I asked George to help me open them and look he immediately got an attitude with me. Of course one of my lamps was broken and his response was how does he know if I didn't do the damage myself.

I tried to call the office several times and left several voicemails. I later found out that George could have called someone including the owner. I fought with George the whole time. He didn't want to load all my belongings. I don't thing he even put inventory stickers on everything. I had to tell Jose what to load. They left many things behind. I tried to take copies of all the paper work and George came in and grabbed everything from me. I was never given my new estimate and was charged almost $500 for the few things they wrapped up even though I was told that it was included (minus packing materials). At the end of the nightmarish day after I was basically forced to sign the contract George called me a slave driver and asked for a tip. Needless to say I didn't give him one.

I called the owner (Nick) and told him what had happened and told him that I was concerned about my belongings. He assured me that he would be there to watch my things being loaded onto a different truck. Nick was apologetic but was quick to ask me for money. I told him that they did a pre auth on my brother's American Express card. He said that it was impossible because they don't take it. I told him that Nicole said they did. I told him that my brother did apply for a mastercard so he would need to give me about a week and I would call with a new number.

Not even a week later I get a call from Eddie who demanded a new credit card number be faxed within ten minutes or he was going to auction my stuff off THAT DAY. Eddie was very abusive and when I asked to talk to Nick he scoffed at me and said nobody talks to the owner. When I asked to talk with Nicole I was told no. I called back a few minutes later and tried to speak with Nicole but she transferred me back to Eddie. I told him that I didn't have a fax number so he told me to email him a new number and he would call me back. I never heard from him again. After that Nick never returned my calls, or emails. I NEVER GOT A WEIGHT TICKET. They wouldn't commit to a moving date. My brother called and they would say maybe next week etc.

I was told my stuff was in their climate controlled warehouse.

About a month later, the delivery driver called me and told me he would arrive either the next evening or the morning after that. He said he would give me 2 hours notice. I got 45 minutes notice at 8:00 at night.

I arrived at my storage and two of the guys decided to walk off the job which left the driver (Jacob) who was very nice. The storage facility manager got involved at that point because of the commotion and it was getting close to closing time. My brother and I with the help of Jacob had to unload the truck ourselves. My things smell like mold. A family antique sewing chest was broken that they packed. Actually everything they packed was damaged. Many boxes were smashed and open. Because it was dark and late we have not been able to see the total extent of damage to my things. There was a piece of furniture that didn't even belong to me. My total bill was at least $1000 more then what was estimated.

Tomorrow I will call the company and go from there. I will write an update to this. Any suggestions on what I should do at this point would be welcome.

I saw that someone had responded to another victim of this company and was not very sympathetic. I would like to think that I'm an intelligent person and I try to check as much as I can on the businesses that I deal with. For whatever reason I did not see the bad reports on this company. I am female and I was alone in SC and moving to CA. I never dreamed that a moving company was allowed to get away with this kind of behavior. It's a very stressful time when a person moves and I think they take advantage of that. My recommendation to anyone moving is RENT A POD AND BE IN CONTROL OF YOUR THINGS.

Joey, in all likelihood the credit card company will resolve the dispute in the favor of the moving company - they generally do. The credit card company will see that the moving company completed the service and they have your signature on the BOL signed confirming it. Once the credit card company sees the signed document, they will reverse the hold. It's not really their fault - their policy is to see if the charge is legit or not in the case of a dispute. The BOL and your signing is sufficient proof - they do not consider the quality of the service as an integral part of the contract; the cc company leaves that as a matter between the contracting parties. $0.60 per pound valuation isn't much. What you're going to need are the claim forms from the moving company for you to complete and return to the moving company; call them and bug them everyday until you get them. If they have a 3rd party company handling their claims - get their name and bug them everyday until you get the forms. I don't think I have to say this, but you need to make copies of everything you submit - whoever you submit paperwork to has the nasty habit of... losing paperwork. Once the forms are submitted, keep on them to verify receipt of the paperwork and that they're following through. The DOT does not handle claims - they barely handle the idiots now pervasive throughout this industry. However, they do field the complaints.... so it was good to complain to them....

I filed a complaint with the DOT and was sent a letter saying that they will look into it but they do not have the authority to resolve claims.

Thanks Sharron for the support and sorry for taking so long to update. I filed a complaint with the DOT and was sent a letter saying that they will look into it but they do not have the authority to resolve claims. My credit card company issued me a "conditional" credit while they are investigating it but can reverse it and wanted copies of everything. I have not made a claim as of yet to AAA Vanlines insurance company. I don't know how to go about dealing with .60 per pound per item. Everything I have smells like mold and has to be washed or dry cleaned or trashed. AAA Vanlines doesn't return my phone calls or emails anyways. I never did receive a weight ticket

Joey, unfortunately AAA Van Lines has been Blacklisted because of a history of moves such as yours. I do know, having been there, that sometimes when you search they don't show up because of variations in the names (even a space between Van Lines makes a difference. But that's not really the point, now, is it? They scammed you, and that's not your fault. At this point, you need to file your complaint with the Department of Transportation (call 1-888-DOT-SAFT), and add yours to the growing list of problems associated with AAA Van Lines. A small consolation is that their BBB membership was suspended this month for failing to follow an arbitator's decision. Sad that it took THAT to lose the membership, but you take what you can get. You should also call the American Moving & Storage Association, of which AAA is a member. File your complaint with them.
