On 11/8/00, I took my car to a auto repair shop for a vibration in my 1996 Nissan Pathfinder. The auto repair told me it was the front drive shaft ($750.00) Thinking that AAMCO would be a specialist in drivetrains, I took my car to AAMCO on 11/14/00.

AAMCO told me that the driveshaft was fine, that it was the rear differential. I went ahead with their recomendation, and had the rear differential repaired ($1097.42). When I picked up my car (11/28/00), I was told that the vibration was still there, that the transfer case needed to be rebuild and the front driveshaft replaced ($1500.00+).

Being close to x-mas and a wedding renewal out of town, I chose not to have that work done. I took the old parts with me.

On 3/32/01, I took my car to a private transmission repair shop to fix the problem. The tech found the problem as a bad joint in the front driveshaft. I had the front driveshaft replaced ($741.69). My car runs smooth now! The tech looked at the old parts from the rear differential and said, "INSPECTED CUSTOMER'S PARTS FROM PREVIOUS WORK DONE ON DIFFERENTIAL. NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ANY TYPE OF PROBLEM!" He also mentioned that any qualified tech would have noticed the bad front driveshaft. The transfer case was fine, no problem.

I have complained to AAMCO's local shop, but they say they fixed what they thought was the problem. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, but their reply was the same. Lawyers won't attend small claims, and they would bring theirs!

Please help me to recover the $1100.00 that they stole from me!

The first place you went to told you the front shafy was bad, and would cost $750 to replace. The shop you ended up at told you the same thing, and charged you the same amount. But in between them, you went to a transmission shop and wasted $1100 on something still unrelated to either the transmission, or the front shaft. Why?! Do you buy clothes at a grocery store? Do you buy tires at a gas station? Do you call a plumber to fix your television?

"Make their shop look beter" ?? It is a matter to do things right, then there is the matter of doing things to maximize the cost. AAMCO maximizes the cost, period! There are over 500+ complaints about AAMCO, from all over the country. Their practice is to maximize the amount of money they can collect. And you say you are hearing only the one side.... look at ALL the other complaints..... it is a problem with this company!

Please before you decide on a personal opinion at the subject of this matter take into consideration a few things. One is that any time you take a vehicle to an independent shop he will do his best to try and make himself look better than the next guy. Second, any mechanic can and has made a mistake. Third, do not condim the complete company of AAMCO do to one persons misfortune there are many reasons for people to be upset about a situation and you usually here only one side as is in this particular case.
