My son entered into an agreement with Aaron's Sales and Lease Ownership when he was first stationed in Ft Richardson, Alaska. From there he went to Iraq, and had allotments coming out to pay for his lease, when he returned he told them that he was being transferred to Ft. Bragg, NC. The owner of the Alaska Aaron's told him that they would transfer his agreement to the local Fayetteville store, and he would be able to pick up where he left off. He'd already paid over $2000 in payments for a houseful of furniture. He turned in his furniture in Alaska, drove across country, and when he got to Bragg, he went to the local Aaron's store, and the manager told him..."No way. We don't do that."

Now, he and his expectant wife are sleeping on the floor in their new apartment.

I called the corporate line and spoke with Ashley, who directed our complaint to a regional manager named Ricky. According to my son, Ricky told him there was nothing he could do, but if he wanted to start a new agreement they'd be glad to help him. Nothing about the $2000 he'd already paid...not even an apology...just a nope...can't help ya. But, I'll take your new money.

Now...I was a regional inventory manager for Aaron's for a couple of years, and I know that agreements are transferred all the time. Not only from corporate stores, but from franchises to corporate stores, and vice versa. I've made a few phone calls to other Regionals that I've worked with, and everyone I've talked to, (off the record), says my son is getting a bad deal.

I hope this gets straightened out, immediately, and my son and daughter in-law get to take ownership of the furniture they thought they were buying in good faith.

I'm sure that Ken Butler wouldn't approve of this, nor would he like to be saddled with the label of "The store that mistreats Veterans."

Steve, I am not sure where you were a RIM but that position was faded out many years ago. However even when you worked for Aaron's transfers have always been handled the same. I have no way of proving what the Franchise in Alaska told your son, but I assure you if they told you that returning the product to them and then getting a credit at another location of over $2000.00, they were incorrect. As far as no one contacting your son from our office you are very wrong on that. Ricky Picklesimer the Regional Customer Accounts Manager over the East Carolina Region contacted your son after he called out office with his complaint. He explained our policy to your son and told him what he needed to do to try to resolve the issue. Your son never called back after that to say if the issue was resolved or not. Ricky (a Veteran of the Iraq war himself) cannot read minds and can not know if your son's issue was resolved. Below is the statement from the RCAM. Addressing your statement of Aaron's and Ken Butler being labeled as mistreating Veterans is incredibly rude, unwarranted and completely untrue. Mr. Butler initiated a Red Shirt Friday policy to support our troops until they come home from the current war, not only that Aaron's donated thousands of dollars to the VFW, and to VA hospitals across the country. Before speaking such fowl words you should have your facts straight on the matter, Sir. If there are any other concerns or questions in reference to this matter they may be addressed to our Divisional Office at 704-845-5064. Kay Zaccardi Divisional VP Assistant The Carolinas Division Ricky Picklesimer's Statement: Sir, There are some parts of the story that you have left out. I talked with your son and explained to him that a transfer is when the merchandise moves with him to the new location and then he would come into the store fill out a new order form and then the franchise store would close the account down and transfer the merchandise. In addition the franchise store would have to contact the store where your son was moving to about the situation ahead of time. None of this occurred and your son showed up at the store and wanted us to credit him the money into something at our store. I did apologize to your son that things where not taken care of properly from the store where he came from and informed him to contact the franchise corporate office, I then gave him the number to that office and informed him to call me back once he spoke with them. I never heard from your son again. Ricky Picklesimer RCAM East Carolina PR90

I presented this complaint on a website that has over a few hundred thousand people as members....the overall consensus was..."We'll call Aaron's on your son's behalf". It seems that there are more people who have been wronged than I previously thought. Since I haven't heard from any corporate people since I posted this yesterday...(although several managers, in and outside the area that I knew have emailed me), I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and await a response by the first of next week. Some of the comments from the Managers and Regionals that I talked with are... "Wow...he could have taken the furniture and screwed them" "I can't believe he actually turned it in...that almost never happens" "I hope you guys win this...." "Business as usual, I'm sorry to say." By the way...nobody has bothered to contact my son. Status Quo?
