I had to move my apt on my school day. School was in the evening and I made sure I mention it to the movers so that I could have my move done early in the morning. The movers gave me a 11am time, which sounded fine. The day I was suppose to move the movers showed up at 1pm. I had to miss school that day.

One of the mover guy named Mike, was bitching about everything since the time he got there. He was rude and at one point he even said the previous lady moved the box herself to help him. Now why would I pay for the movers if I am gonna move the boxes myself. That guy was totally going off about all kind of things, and all I could do was just let it be. I didn;t want to upset him or anything coz I did want him to move my stuff safely. And obviously I couldnt say no to the movers, it was my last day to move.

I had a box that read Kitchen items handle with care there were plates and glasses in it, that mover guy literally threw it in the floor. There is no doubt how he didnt care about moving my stuff. I dont understand why a moving company would hire someone like him who seemed like he didnt care about his job at all. The other guy who was helping him, apologized to me on mikes behalf. He said, they were having a  rough day and he is sorry about Mikes rude behavior.

MIke brought in the glass top to my dining table and I saw the edge of it was cracked. Its not just a small tiny scratch, the golf ball size cracked. Pointless to say, I cannot use that dining table anymore. I mentioned it to the mike and he says, the table was already like that when he moved. After discussing for a while, he confessed he broke it and says its insured and there is nothing to worry about it will be taken care of.

I called the company to inform them about the damage and the lady asked me to take pics of it and mail it to them I did as asked and after couple days I get a letter from them saying, they pay .60/lb so according to them the glass table is 50lb so I deserve to get $30 for my damage. I called the company to tell them $30 is not going to cover for the damage, its a $600 dining table what will I do with $30. The guy I spoke with who said he was the owner of the company said, Did u not read the contract? You signed it right? well he was very rude too. Ofcourse he is the owner of the company he can apparently say whatever he wants to the customer. At the end he said, there is nothing he can do to help as I have signed the contract and I  can call the attorney and hung up.

I paid for the move, tipped the mover and now I am left with a broken dining table. I am getting $30 for it, which probably I can use to hire someone who can help me trash that table, coz obviously I cannot carry it myself thats why I hired the movers.

As a customer what is my right? Why am I at loss for hiring professional movers? I could have hired couple people and paid them way less money than I paid the movers and get the job done. The only reason I hired the professional movers was coz I thought they will be careful with my stuff and just in case anything goes wrong I thought insurance would cover it.

The guy is right, I signed the contract and no I didnt read it. Was I suppose to read and go over the whole contract when they already came late? Does it matter even if I had read the contract? Did I have any choice at the last moment to not take their service? The owner of the company said that I only paid $130 for my service. So how can they pay anything more for a $600 dining table. But what is the insurance for? I paid only $130 for a whole year of my renters insurance, so if anything happens in my apartment tomorrow, is my insurance gonna say they gonna cover only $100 for it?

At this point I dont even know if I am mad or what am I feeling. I am a full time student no job. I moved from a 2nd floor to a 3rd just so I can save some money on my rent. I hired a professional movers so I can have all my stuff moved safely. I paid as I was asked for, yet Im left with a useless dining table and there is nothing anyone can do.

I feel I have been ripped off. What kind of insurance policy do moving company have which does not serve any right at all to the customers? I dont know what else I should say or what do I do now.

Is there any help I get?
