Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
When we decided to move we got several estimates. A company called American Eagle had the best bid ($1345), so we decided to go with them. On the day of the move, August 12th, 2002, the movers were about five hours late. They showed up eventually, and I stupidly signed the agreement. Halfway through the move, the driver said that it would end up costing us about $1800. We thought that was strange, so we called the company. It turned out that these movers weren't even from American Eagle, but from Advanced Moving Systems. American Eagle had sub-contracted our job without telling us!

Our stuff was already on the truck, so we agreed. Toward the end of the move, the driver said that we had used $2700 worth of space. He hadn't even loaded our sectional yet. My fiancee and I hadn't budgeted for this, so we had to leave it behind. (That was tough, because we loved that damned couch!)

Now it has been 12 days since the move and we are still sleeping on the floor. We have tried to call both companies to get them to give us relief on the rates. They have put us on hold forever, ignored us, switched operators on us. They won't even give us a day when they will drop our stuff off. We are seriously pissed and are considering legal action.

If anyone out there has been ripped off by American Eagle or Advanced Moving Systems, please get in touch with us. A class action lawsuit might be possible. Please post your expereince so we can join together through this web site.

Thank You Very Much.

Hello Janet, is there anybody in there? Have you EVER moved using anything other than a pick up truck?

This is truly a matter of a scam artist, not a matter of a consumer trying to get something for nothing. There was an agreement, and hopefully a contract, on the amount of moneies to be paid for the move. If these were truly movers, and not scam artists, they would know before a box was placed on the trailer or straight truck, that the amount agreed upon was to low for the job. Movers usually ask the consumer to estimate # boxes, and pieces of furniture but they really want/need to know the #rooms and square footage of the house or apartment that the belongings occupied. It's their job, their speciality - they SHOULD have people with a the experience who can figure out a quote for what needs to be done. This did not happen. Instead, they have, in more than one instance, simply took control of these people's belongings, and then told them - tough - it's gonna cost you much more to get your stuff back. And if you don't pay, you don't get it back.

I grew up knowing many of movers up and down the east coast. My father owned and ran a company that was a major supplier of straight trucks, tractors, trailers and moving supplies, and I grew up in the business. This is not usual business practice, OR a company that just wants to make a profit. there is nothing legitimate about it.

To some of the people above comments ....please undestand that in todays day and age we are a society of VALUE.

Although it is human to initilly BELIEVE that all these situations tend to happen due to geting the lowest rate possible whereas MOST get a average and go with that. I dont beleive for a second that mot of these people take the lowest and run with it. However when you start getting 30-40 quotes for the same range on would beleive THATS the going rate for that move.

After all have you ever bough a new home or a car and get shocked over the price?? Thats why we shop around get a happy medium not the highest nor the lowest. Just think about it....

I have just filed my own report on this site about Advanced Moving Systems. They are currently holding my stuff hostage, and attempting to rip me off. I have already retained an attorney to fight them, and am looking for others who want to start a class action suit.

I am sorry to say that James is unfortunately right .If you are just looking for the cheapest (no, it is not the best !! )price , go ahead and move yourself with Ryder or U-Haul .

It obviously does not occur to a huge amount of customers that to obtain quality work and service is NOT FREE !!!!Hello , those are profit oriented companies , we are not talking charity here. It has beeen all over the news , including a 1 hour special on CNN that there are companies , especially in FL, that WILL rip you off , no matter how smart you think you are. I am quite aware that the US is a huge nation, but please , aren't we all responsible individuals or at least try to be ?

If it sounds to good to be true ....well, it will not come true .

I am having trouble understanding why anyone would want to hand over their personal belongings ( it is your life we are talking about here, those are values you cannot afford to lose! ) to a company he or she never had personal conatct ( Visual Estimate ) with.

I am also having trouble feeling sorry for those people ....as sometimes you are just begging to get screwed...

This company truly is the worst moving company out there. I contracted them 4 weeks ago (no they were not the low bidder!), and I am still waiting on delivery of my things. This is a company of liars and thieves. They think that by yelling and swearing at us that we will be intimidated by them and not pursue legal action! All consumers that have been hurt by Advanced Movers should file a class-action lawsuit. People should not be allowed to treat their customers this badly! I can only imagine what shape my belongings will be in if or when they finally do arrive!
