I am placing this complaint because affordablepup.com sold me a dachshund puppy that had an intestinal parasite called Giardia which comes from drinking dirty water, she also had kennel cough, upper respiratory disease, and was severely dehydrated to the point of having to be on intervenious fluids at the vet for 4 days. She almost died.

My poor dog was also kept in a kennel overnight in Detroit with no food or water. She was supposed to arrive at 3:30pm and didn't show up until the next morning. I waited at the airport for 4 hours and no dog showed.

When Lucy (my puppy) finally did show up the following morning she was squeezed into a tiny carrier with another dog Diego (who was also sick). The paperwork for Lucy said my name and "yorkie multese male". The airline attendant said, "in my 13 years working for the airline I've never seen a dog transaction go so badly." We heard every excuse in the book while we waited in the airport we never heard from the company doing the shipping. We paid for a single shippment $275.00 and we got two dogs in a crate.

I have two other dachshunds that also got sick. One has severe breathing problems due to having contracted kennel cough from the puppy. I am livid. These people are selling sick dogs from Omish Puppy Mills near by. I was told by the Humane Society that the vet that signs off on their heathy certificates no longer has any clients. He is forging these documents.

Affordablepup.com sent medications to my dog without a veternary license. They told me "not to take my dog to the vet because they would send me all I needed to cure her." They make the claim on their website that "most veternarians do not know how to treat upper respiratory problems". They are telling people right there, your dog will arrive sick!

I want this company shut down and or investigated by the proper authorities. These people are doing a terrible injustice to these dogs. I hate to see what the parents look like because the puppies are suffering terribly.

My vet bills are $788.25 on top of the $667.00 that I paid for my puppy "Lucy". Affordablepup.com is refusing to pay my bills. They are responsible for all three of my dogs illnesses and they owe me this money!

Everyone! Beware of this company and do not buy a dog from them! You will be sorry. Please publish this complaint so this doesn't happen to another poor dog! I have contacted the local ASPCA and Humane Society and area animal controls for this area in Ohio.

There is more to this nightmare but that is most of our story. The owner of this company does not care about our dogs, our bills or us. I have to take him to small claims court to get my money.

Thank you for listening.

So sorry for your turmoil, but could be fault of airline?

First off, I am so very sorry about your pets.  I know how hard it is to deal with the sickness of a loved one, including furry loved ones, and have the added burden of the cost of caring for them.

I think I am a little confused, though:  It says you are College Park, MD - but you say your pup sat in the Detroit Airport overnight.  I do not understand that at all.  The dog should've come out of Columbus, OH airport (as my Havanese did) directly to your nearest airport in MD.  I bought my pup during a 'free shipping' offer and he still flew directly to ATL.

Also, when my pup arrived, he was in the Delta required travel crate, with food and water.  The water was gone and the food dumped in the bottom of the crate.  I had never picked up cargo before, and arrived at the cargo pick-up at the time the plane landed, so I had to wait for the puppy to be transferred to the cargo pick-up from the plane.  The Delta employee told me that it was common for the pups to dump their water, so they often had to water the dogs again at cargo because some owners were hours or more picking up their pet.  I wonder if your puppy could have gotten comtaminated water at the airport.

Another point I have is that whenever you buy a puppy, especially when adding to the animals you already have, you should never allow the new to mix with the old until they've been vet checked and had their parvo and kennel cough shots.  My vet has told me twice in the past, when I've gotten puppies (one from affordablepup.com, one we picked up from a breeder in AL) that it's ideal to keep the new puppies separate from the other dogs (esp. dogs under 2 years) for at least 14 days, if possible.  He says that both kennel cough and parvo can lie 'hidden' and then "bam" hit in what seems like an hour or two - days later- without ever having shown symptoms.

Now, a little about my experience:  I've had 6 dogs in the last 20 years, all but one were acquired as pups, and all but one were acquired as 'additional members' of our fur-family. Noah is our latest, we've had him a month now.  He is our second AKC Havanese.  Our first was bought from a reputable breeder with years of experience in AL.  Havanese breed standard is 8-14 pounds.  Our last Havanese was 20 pounds.  Havanese are known for their silky soft hair.  Our last Havanese had frizzy, curly fur.  (though it was soft for fur, it wasn't like hair).  Our last Havanese was $1200. with a Spay/Neuter contract.  (We didn't like it, but all the other Havs we looked at were $2000. plus with Spay/Neuter.)  I didn't do my homework, except on personality.  Our last Havanese was 100% Havanese personality.  We loved him so much, and his personality was so happy and perfect, that he was worth every penny of that $1200.  Sadly, I let Barkley out to go to the bathroom one night, not knowing that my husband was just about to turn in the drive on his motorcycle.  Barkley LOVED to chase cars, so we were always cautious.  I made a mistake of letting Barkley out without staying right with him.  (He was trained with an underground fence collar, so he never did leave the yard.)  Barkley died that night, and we ached for our 'happy' fur-baby.  (He was 4, but he was still the baby of our family.) When some time had passed, we opted to get another Havanese.  That's when I found Noah (then Oreo) at affordable pup.  I paid for him at 930 on Saturday night, he was delivered to the airport the next morning, planed at 1030 am and arrived in ATL at 115 pm.  He is our only indoor dog, so keeping him separate from the other dogs (lab & collie) was not an issue.  I did as I was instructed by affordable pup and carried him to the vet within 2 weeks for a full exam (I actually took him on the Monday after we got him).  Our vet was truly surprised at how healthy Noah is - he was 4 pounds 4 ounces when we got him.  He's 5 pounds 5 ounces now.  He was vaccinated for kennel cough by our vet.  Noah his since been back for his booster shots.  He is healthy, happy, and active.  When I received his AKC Pedigree, I learned his parents are Hungarian imports.  I did further research and have since learned the difference in the different 'strains' of Havanese, how one can look so differently from another as far as coat, size, etc.  But the trademark is the personality.  All Havanese have the same personality.  They also all hop like rabbits when they run.

I did not have to rely on affordablepup.com for their guarantees - my pup is healthy, so I cannot speak to that.  I just think it should be considered that since affordablepup.com nor you had the pups you purchased for what sounds like a day or two, it has to be considered that the contamination of your pups happened at the airport.  The cargo clerks at Delta allowed me to walk back to where they kept the pets - they were all in one room.  Knowing that, I would have to wonder how many viruses and illnesses a dog left for one/two days in cargo could have contracted.  Knowing that the cargo hold for pets is probably not cleaned with lysol or another diseinfectant when it does have an empty moment.

I hope your pets have recovered and are doing well.

I brought a puppy morkie girl, that totaled to over 900.00 from www.affordablepup.com and as soon as my puppy arrived from the airport she did her first throw up.

At 1st I was a little concerned and worried but thought maybe she threw up because of the flight and was nervous, and decided to ignore it.
But my instinct was telling me other wise.

I gave her the albon that www.affordablepup.com gave me and the food they gave with her, I was definitely concerned with the fact that they gave albon with her.

Every day after that she was throwing up and having diarrhea 3x a day that was watery and had blood in it. I was worried she had Parvo.

I immediately called www.affordablepup.com and told them the symptoms she had Matt had the nerve and audacity to tell me that this is normal and ok for the dog, to have diarrhea and throwing up because shes is nervous.
When I asked him should I bring her to the vet he tells me no! That its a waste of my time and its going to cost me 500.00 for nothing and the vet is just going to make the dog more stressed out. I ve never heard of someone being so unkind and unhuman to a living thing. I even told him, look be honest if shes sick let me know so I can bring her in immediately he tells me no shes fine and had the nerve to hang up on me.

I definitely ignored him and brought her to the vet.

This is just sad and illegal how this company can rip people off by taking hard working money from people by selling sick animals. Money does not grow on trees,
and the dog wasnt given for free. I am definitely taking this company to small claims court and I will make it my business to let the word get out about how fraudulent this company is. These are innocent animals and should not be treated like this for greed. This business needs to be reported and shut down. Loosing moeny is one thing but loosing a dog is another thing. These people are cruel and insenstive to animals and their customers.

They dont even have a store, they run it online and after doing research it seems like there are a lot of bad reviews about them and are very well known.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM THEM UNLESS YOU DONT MIND TAKING CARE OF A SICK DOG..

www.affordablepup.com you will hear from me, I will take this matter to court and the expenses of selling me a sick dog.

Eileen,

I feel your pain. My boyfriend and I bought a dog from them this past summer and he was not healthy at all. The parasites was from the dogs mother...which tell us this was from a puppy mill that is not clean! Our vet bills were also high and when we called them to inform them...Mike said on the phone "you must be crazy" and hanged up on us. It was a VERY big disappointed for us. I would never again buy from them and/or suggest to my friends because they will get a sick dog.

At first it seems like a good concept but they are not reliable, not honest and didn't care that our vet found the dog not healthy. If you start the list---we will sign it.

I have to agree with everyone but you Eileen. No breeder/pound dogstoe whatever would even think of paying you for the dog and vet bills. And i find it strange when you said that your bills were 668 dollars i believe. affordable puppy gave you 664 for vet bills now you want 1000 come on if you should be suing anyone it should be the kennel. i have personally seen some of the kennels that dogs have to stay in when they are shipped by plane. It isnt exactly the ritz. there are alot of sick dogs and that is most likely where the dog got the intestinal parasite and kennel cough. right there kennel cough is the operative word there. your dog was in a kennel overnight ding ding ding that right there should be an obvious one. Dog stayed in a kennel got kennel cough. it doesnt take a dog long after it has stayed in one to develop one. It sounds like affordable puppy went above and beyond to make things right that no regular breeder would do. any dog owner knows that when you buy a dog online and it is shipped by air you are supposed to quarantine the dog away from your other pets for at least 1 week to see if they have anything wrong with them. sounds to me like you need to read up on responsible dog ownership and stop looking for a handout. If you knew it was sick why put it with your other dogs. Genius really.

NO BREEDER will refund the cost of the animal PLUS vet bills and other incidentals. In fact, most breeders won't even refund the cost of the animal ... they usually just let you exchange the animal for a different one. It sounds like this particular breeder was more than fair and accommodating. You should be grateful and move your outstretched greedy hand out of their way. There is no rip off here! PS - I find it interesting how you fail to mention, in your initial report, the fact that they refunded nearly $700 to you prior to your writing your 'complaint'.

Unfortunately not every transaction can go flawlessly with live animals, we offered this customer an opportunity to send the puppy back as soon as she received it and she declined. The puppies spent an overnight stay in detroit with Northwest airlines at temperatures around 15 degress, we believe this is where the upper respitory problem occured. The puppy is healthy as can be now which is most important to us. We refunded the customer the full cost of the puppy including the freight charges. Per our warranty available on our site we do not cover vet bills, so we found it fair to refund the customer every penny she paid us. Eileen we wish you and lucy the best and I am sorry you had a poor experience. Please understand we are dealing with small little babies and not a material product or service. I'd love for the world to hear the sounds of my Lucy dog on our video that shows how she couldn't breath and please contact my vet Dr. Greg at Marymont Animal Hopspital in Silver Spring Md. for his views on how sick Lucy was when we received her before you ever believe this liar. Mike from not so affordablepup.com is trying to get you to believe that I'm a hysterical crazy person. Believe me, I'm all about looking out for the dogs and for the parents he is abusing by his disregard for their safety and welbeing. I like how he states that Lucy was the only dog that got sick or was transported in that crate that day. I have PROOF that she was in deed shipped with Diego another SICK dog. PLEASE READ DIEGO'S STORY listed here!! You will see what a BOLD FACE LIAR this man is!! I would like the world to know that I am taking the owner of affordablepup.com to court because I am filing for reimbursement of the TOTAL amount of our vet bills which is now over $1,000. Our dog is still being treated for her health problems! This person is lying! He only refunded me $664.00 when my vet bills were well over $1,000. He refuses to admit he received all my invoices via fax when I sent them twice and received confirmation both times. I want the whole world to know what a rip off this company this is and that they are selling SICK DOGS FROM PUPPY MILLS! My dog Lucy was only 6 weeks old when we got her not 9 weeks as they said and I have yet to see any papers on her parents. I am not telling a false story here. I'm telling you the truth! Please read Diego's story also. Diego was the puppy in the same crate as Lucy and his story is listed here also. "Lauren" (Diego's mom) and I are NOT lying! Mike from Affordablepup.com is not telling you the truth and he is the owner of this RIP OFF COMPANY! Until I get my money, I will ride around with a sign on the back of my car "BOYCOTT AFFORDABLEPUP.COM" And I will tell my story there too. Thanks Eileen And Lucy In College Park

I have read your policies for filing reports on your site, a consumer has broken the rules by lieing and not providing correct information. We sent this puppy to Eileen in great condition, it had current health certificate and was healthy as can be. The puppy was delayed by NWA for over a day and was kennelled overnight in dtroit due to cold temperatures. Unfortunatly when puppies leave our control it is very hard for us to control the condition they rrive in if there i a major problem with the airline. The puppy left healthy and in great condition! Both of the illnesses the puppy had were contrated at the overnight kennel as no other dogs we sent out that day had any issues! Eileens dog was he only dog that spent the night in the kennel and that was the only pup that had any issue. It is also very possible that due to the cold temperatures the pupy got a cold it was 11 degrees that day! Eileen fails to mention that on Feb 22nd we issued a FULL REFUND of $667.00 due to her bills she had with the vet. I personally spent over 5 hours talking with her and trying to help her. This in no way was our fault and she knows this. She got this dog for free as WE REFUNDED the full amount of purchase of $667.00. Live animals are a definat challenge during the winter with cold temperature and flight delays but we can assure any customers that we try our hardest to make sure every dog is 100% healthy! We apologized to Eileen and refunded her money prior to this report and have a receipt to proove it! Feel free to contact us with any concerns 614-570-6362. Also i would like to ad the vet informed us the day after arrival when eileen took the pup in that she was in good health just had a few minor issues, which again we believe are due to the overnight stay at the NWA kennel!

I wanted to also let you know that the medications which affordablepup.com sent to our puppy Lucy did not show up until 4 days later. We were promised a FED EX overnight Air shippment and it was sent UPS Ground. I didn't trust them so I took the medications to my vet. My vet's medical book states, "Do not give this medication to infant or geriatric animals could cause kidney failure, or deafness.
